Best Case 2012-13 Cavs Team

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Sometimes I can really hate fantasy, since it's simply not real. But I guess I can indulge a little. I haven't done it yet. But this might be the last time I try on this board:

Best case scenario with delusions:

Trading deadline:

  • Trade Andy for 2 first rounders 2012, 1 REALLY unknown potential player who averages 10 or less minutes, but plays center (6'10-7'0) and weighs 230-250+ lbs.
  • Trade Sessions for 1 first rounder in 2012
  • Trade Jamison for 1 second rounder in 2012
Draft:

  • Win Lottery (draft either Anthony Davis or Andre Drummond)
  • Trade 2 first rounders for a top 10 pick (draft swingman like Beal/Lamb/Miller)
  • Trade 1 first rounder, 2 second rounders for another player in the top 25 (a backup big or swingman)
  • Draft another backup big or swingman in the second round
Free agency

  • Use cap space to sign a quality starter at center (Hibbert/Lopez type)
  • Sign a veteran that can defend swingmen
  • Sign another veteran that can backup Irving
Final Result:
<table><tbody><tr><th>Players</th><th>Center</th><th>Power Forward</th><th>Small Forward</th><th>Shooting Guard</th><th>Point Guard</th></tr> <tr><td>Starters</td><td>Hibbert/Lopez type</td><td>Anthony Davis</td><td>Veteran Swingman</td><td>Top 10 Draft Pick Swingman</td><td>Kyrie Irving</td></tr> <tr><td>Backups</td><td>Potential Center</td><td>Tristan Thompson</td><td>Omri Casspi</td><td>Alonzo Gee</td><td>Veteran Backup PG</td></tr> <tr><td>3rd String</td><td>Draft Big</td><td>Save for needed piece</td><td>Draft Swingman</td><td>Christian Eyenga</td><td>Save for needed piece</td></tr></tbody></table>

This is probably what I'd do. But let's be more realistic:

Best case scenario without delusions:

Trading deadline:

  • Trade Sessions for 1 first rounder in 2012
  • Trade Jamison for 1 second rounder in 2012
Draft:

  • Either top 3-10 (Barnes/Kidd-Gilchrist/Beal/Lamb/Miller)
  • Trade 1st with 2nd to go up in draft (Center or Swingman)
  • Draft a stash away pick
Free agency

  • Use some cap space to get the best available big man
  • Sign Milan Macvan
  • Sign a veteran that can defend swingmen
  • Sign another veteran that can backup Irving
Final Result:
<table><tbody><tr><th>Players</th><th>Center</th><th>Power Forward</th><th>Small Forward</th><th>Shooting Guard</th><th>Point Guard</th></tr> <tr><td>Starters</td><td>Best Available C
</td><td>Tristan Thompson
</td><td>Veteran Swingman</td><td>3-8 Draft Pick
</td><td>Kyrie Irving</td></tr> <tr><td>Backups</td><td>Andy Varejao
</td><td>Milan Macvan
</td><td>Omri Casspi</td><td>Alonzo Gee</td><td>Veteran Backup PG</td></tr> <tr><td>3rd String</td><td>Draft Big</td><td>Samardo Samuels
</td><td>Draft Swingman
</td><td>Christian Eyenga</td><td>Save for needed piece</td></tr></tbody></table>
This is the best I got. The starting center would average at least 10 points and 7 rebounds. Tristan gets better too. The draft pick and Irving can get 16-20 points. The swingman defends hard. It's better than nothing.

So, give me your thoughts on this one and I'll give you mine for yours. But I still trust in our management the most at the end of the day. We'll see.

Irving/Bledsoe
Lamb/Gibson
Gee/Lamb
TT/AV
Hibbert/AV

Awesome team right there and kind of realistic. Sign Hibbert outright to max and hope Indiana doesn't match. Get Lamb (or Beal) in the draft in the 7-9 range. Three starters are 20 years old, and two are only 25. The frontcourt rotation has four players who can play solid defense. The starting backcourt has good size and Gibson can play defense off the bench. Bledsoe was just a throw-in spurred by Holinger's idea but really that can be anyone (a vet would be good actually....maybe Jason Kidd? heh...). Three starters are at least decent 3pt shooters, and Hibbert is a pretty good complement to TT and AV.

BTW, just wanted to quote this for reference, as the best realistic post of the thread.

Even if Hibbert doesn't match, there's always a good chance of finding a possible productive big man who can fill the center spot. Along with that, there's a need to get another couple of players who fill positions if we can't get a maximum center. So, you think either of these works? You think someone who's in the know can tell Grant there's some bright kids on here?

I think the magic get the best from us by getting omri casspi semih erden antawan jamison and first round pick. Orlando won't take just Noah from the bulls. The magic only want Gasol From the lakers which they said won't happen. Clippers can only give up Jordan which isnt enough.
Eric Gordan is an underrated player and a free agent. Lebron should come here because of Riley and the clippers don't have enough to offer, the lakers don't want him and Chicago has a star small forward in Deng. Lopez is another easy underrated sign.

Throw in Harangody and I think your on to something!

best case:

C-Dwight
PF-Varejao
SF-Casspi
SG-Lamb
PG-Kyrie

So I've been going through the topics talking about free agency, trading individual players and all of that...but! I haven't seen a compilation thread, so. All things considered, realistically, plan a strategy and tell me your best case (remember realistic) cavs team next year, and explain the trades and free agency pickups.

GO!

  • Trade #1

Cavaliers receive: World peace, Walton, Lakers 2012 1st & 4.2 (Sessions) million trade exception
    Lakers receive: Jamison & Sessions

  • Trade #2

Cavaliers receive: Jermain Oneal, Brandon Bass, Boston 2012 1st

    Boston receives: Anderson Varejao

With these trades, I'd project the Cavaliers to lose an additional 10 games (Trade machine projects additional 7 losses for each trade, so 10 is reasonable). 10 additional losses put us in play for a top-4 pick, and a chance to win the lottery.

(Remember, this is best-case scenario... and this is realistic if ESPN projections are correct)

Cavs win lottery (Best case).

#1 pick: Anthony Davis,C/PF, Kentucky
#15 (via Boston) Terrence Ross SG (Washington) or Doron Lamb SG (Kentucky)
#20 (via Lakers) Terrence Jones SF (Kentucky)

#32 (via Hornets) Draymond Green SF/PF (Michigan State)
#40 Bradford Burgess SG (VCU)

Cavaliers buy out Walton over the summer, keeping World Peace for leadership, Vet experience. Scott and [Artest] are good friends so I don't foresee any problems.

2013 Starting line-up:

C: Anthony Davis/T.Thomas/Samuels
PF: T.Thomas/Bass/Green
SF: World Peace/Terrence Jones/Green/Gee
SG Terrence Ross/Gee/Burgess
PG: Irving/Gibson/Burgess

The most unlikely of this "best case" scenario would be the Cavaliers winning the lottery and getting Davis. However, we can replace Davis with Drummond, or if the Cavs are lower, replace Jones or Ross with either Barnes or Beal/Lamb... then take Fab Melo or Meyers Leonard with the #15 pick. Davis looks the best there, and Drummond looks great too... but Melo or Leonard with either Barnes, Beal or Lamb (in addition to the rest of the picks) look great too.

Add in the Cavaliers future picks owed to them, and we have a very young team that should be a contender within 2 years(IMHO).

Who the hell is T. Thomas?

and I'm just going to have to laugh a second time at the thought of keeping Ron Artest for leadership and Vet experience. He is the absolute last person in the league I would want for that role.

Thomas = Typo. I meant Thompson

As for Artest, and your "beliefs" of his abilities... that is irrelevant!!!

The facts are this: Ron has multiple championships during his career; has played with multiple HOFers; has changed a lot since his younger days - being a distraction; I have faith in Byron Scott's ability as a coach; and finally, I think that the role of team captain would be something that Ron would really embrace, and his experience for our young & very talented players would be immeasurable!!! Remember when everyone said they wouldn't touch Zach Randolph? Remember how he embraced the leadership role? Well, I think that Ron has a lot more to offer in that department, and would be an excellent addition to a team with so many young and extremely talented players.

Besides, if it didn't work... we could buy him out!!!

And - IF Ron didn't work out... we ship him off/buy him out, regardless, it is worth taking him in trade because the benefits (chance at Davis plus additional 1st, chance that he becomes mentor to team) vastly outweigh the possible negative (One negative VS multiple positives).

I'm pretty sure Ron has only ever won one championship in his career.

Leave it to heath to suggest we should bring in Artest to be our team captain...

Best-case scenario:

PG - Irving, Allen Iverson, Mark Price
SG - Brandon Roy, Michael Jordan, Beal
SF - Scottie Pippen, Gee, Casspi
PF - Rasheed Wallace, Thompson, Dennis Rodman
C - Shaq, Z, Grant (he's 6'10" and can walk and chew gum at the same time, right?)

Guys, we have to go for veteran presence next year! Our young guys are lost without them! They need proven vets like these to build them up and help us win a championship, talent be damned!

Irving/Gibson
Gee/Mayo/Parker
1st round pick/Casspi
TT/Ilyasova/AV
Asik/AV/Hollins

Irving
Lamb/Beal
Gee
Thompson
Andy

this will most likely be the case

Finish with 5-7 worst record hit #2 in the lottery for MKG. Trade up to draft JLamb 11-15 with Lakers 1st rounder in 2012, our 2013 top five protected, and New Orleans 2012 2nd rounder. Maybe Sacramento pick too? Draft Marquis Teague with our 2nd rounder, most likely he wouldn't be there for us in the second round if he even declares this year but he's pretty low on some mocks. Sign Ersan Ilyasova for about 6 million a year. Resign Gee for 3 million a year. Sign Danny Green for 2ish million a year. Sign Asik for 2ish Million a year.
Kyrie/ Marquis Teague Prospect
Lamb/Danny Green Prospect
MKG/Gee Casspi
TT/Iyasova Prospect
AV/Asik Prospect
We would probably be better off using some our cap space for a F/C a year or two later instead of Illyasova but if we wanted a playoff team next year this would work.
