Bias In Media

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah, I believe that is the chnage Lue alluded to. It makes sense on paper because we are getting killed on defensive rebounding. The problem, Tristan got 1 rebound in 20 minutes.

Hopefully when his role changes, so will his production.

Since this is still open, I want to share this:

Obviously the commentator here is anti-Trump, but if you ignore the sides within the argument, he makes really great points about what's wrong with CNN that really isn't just about bias. A lot of people on the right hate CNN because of it's bias, particularly against the president. I can understand that. But CNN is a bad network REGARDLESS. They were shit before Trump came along because they are sensationalist, sloppy, and more concerned with entertainment/ratings than actual news.

These issues, moreso than straight up bias IMO, are what we need to focus on to reform our journalism to properly serve us as a fourth estate. There is no interest in holding the powerful accountable, they just want to create drama which reinforces the feelings of the viewers, regardless of your political stance. The fact that our press is profit-driven leads to this slick, stylish version of the news and pushes networks to be representative of a particular worldview (aka a market segment) rather than seek truth.

Is this too political of a point to post?

I posted something way less political than this and was immediately jumped on. We aren't aloud to discuss politics for the time being. That is the slippery slope we are now on. If my post was condemned as being political than certainly this one is.

The same thing with that burger king shot at net neutrality. Had I posted something cheeky in opposition to net neutrality there is no doubt that would have been jumped on and red flagged immediately.

I don't want to get into a blame game or the team sportiness that goes on here, as I haven't called anyone out for crossing the line in the sand. I can only speak for myself in that I wish to continue talking politics but I recognize that it's been warned against.

I know my post is political, but I was kinda hoping it'd slide by for being meta-political rather than direct. But I see it's not gonna work.

I'll just bow out of these threads and pray the Cavs stop sucking. See you guys in a few months maybe!

It's honestly been nice having the political discussions banned on here. They led to me getting into arguments/being shitty to people on here that seem to be pretty chill once I look past the political differences. My best friend is a big liberal and I've found it works out best to just not talk politics because we're not going to change each other's minds.

Someone besides me post a gaping vagina.. quick!

Jonathan haidt has a great book on thought processes in argumentation.

You are absolutely wasting your time with this unless you are entirely open to information. People hear arguments and rush to confirm their position. They don't listen to the argument, they look for support of their own.

It's a valid point when the argument is new. Much less when it is one that has been heard/addressed many times before.

To an extent, but, eg you and gour on immigration. Or most things.

FWIW, I do agree with Haidt's argument here. People are quite reluctant to absorb new information or self-assess their own positions. My job used to be to go door-to-door to talk to potential voters, so, I've seen this thousands of times with perfect strangers.
