Billy Preston: Most likely the next LeBron James

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Id start this kid over white w the better players and see how he looks.

White is a career g leaguer, let him play w the bench bums.

I wish summer league was longer. A guy like Preston would benefit from playing 20-25 game over the course of 2-3 months with the level of competition that Summer league is. The G-league is a step down from the talent level of summer league. The addition of NBA, overseas, and rookies makes summer league more of the minor leagues of the NBA than G-league currently is.

They really need to make more summer leagues like Sacramento and Orlando. I feel like it would be a nice draw in non-NBA cities. Places like Vancouver, Seattle, Louisville, San Diego, Santa Fe, Omaha, etc would probably love having a 10-14 days of summer league.

I'm intrigued. He even moves a little bit like Lebron but less developed. Stick him in the g league and see how he does.

Can't say I agree. Summer League is glorified pickup and guys are just thrown together, for the most part. At least in the G League you're going up against teams that play every day with one another, practice, and run more than two or three sets.

You also don't see as much ball-hogging and chucking from guys who are praying to get picked up. D-League guys are more settled and working on developing, rather than trying to have one or two blowout games to prove themselves.

Yeah, this is a big one. It's why it's especially hard for bigs, because so many guards are out there chucking.

If the summer league was longer and had like 2 leagues with a three or four city tour each, the league could be more instructional and less pick up game.

I agree that expanding summer league would help development.

Preston played decent, he had several nice moves but also a couple forced miscues. I think him starting in Canton will do wonders for this kid. He’s so smooth and talented, some of his moves remind me of 18 year old Lebron and a young PG.

So some would like to see Billy Preston play 25 games in the summer... At which point he’d probably have, I dunno, 3 weeks off before camp only to gear him up for an 82 game regular season ?

Fantastic!

A two year deal on a two-way. Nice. Low risk, high reward. I know there are some agents that hate the two-way deals, but I think these two year versions are great because they indicate a team wants to invest time and effort into a player. For a guy like Preston, this is the perfect way to develop and have time to not be rushed. Things got messed up for him at Kansas and in Europe, so he can get stable minutes with a stable staff and be close to the home club so he'll have an opportunity at times to get work in there as well.

Works great for Canton too because he could be a very exciting player to watch with REAL potential to contribute in Cleveland down the line. So Cavs fans could drive down to Canton and see some games to watch him.

I have a crazy idea. Change into the smoking jacket, fix yourself a high ball and hand-rolled jazz cigarette.

What if...

What if there was some kind of minor league for basketball? So a guy like Preston could play... get this... A few times a week during the regular season for the Cavs?

A two year two way deal is perfect. I think the Cavs got a extra lottery pick this year. Play him mostly in Canton. Give him a nba taste here and there. Take your time and develop him
