Bosh

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
No matter what SAS whines about on TV, no matter how many times he does it, there is no way for a team to have any kind of realisitic Title hopes banking on signing 2 max guys. It is just not possible. The roster would have to be full of rookies and minimum salary type vets, nothing resembling what budding superstars want to enter into in their prime. These guys are not dumb. They know it takes more than 2 stars to win.

The only way we get 2 stars is by trading for one of them. Period. The only way the Knicks do it is by trading for two of them. Ok, maybe they could sign one of them first, like before this next season, and then trade for the other, but......come on, not happening.

First off, thank you everyone for all of the useful information. Special thanks goes out to Joel for his analysis.

Some people have mentioned the possibility of being able to trade for Bosh; what possible scenarios could we have for that situation? Along with that, I'm assuming that to make it work Bosh would have to settle for less money?

Ok so in the local media my day told me that Brian Colangelo was on a show and talking about the Raps. He was asked (paraphrase)
What is going on in terms of talks between you and Chris?

And he answered something like this
Chris andd I are going to talk over the summer about our situation. If he says that he will not re sign here then I will trade him to a team that wants him.

So I would say that our chances could be really good at getting him if he tells BC that he wants to play here.

i think through creative trading we can keep operating deep into the luxury tax, if we get bosh in one of those creative trades. but who do we lose in the process? who can u convince to play for cheap? mo + bosh + lbj = 45mil i believe. and the cap will be under 60mil

Z, Wally, Ben, Some Joe Smith type of guys. Also if we trade Ben for him then our salary is basically the same. If the cap goes down however then keeping Wally and letting him expire this year along with Snow saves that saves Mr. Gilbert 13 x 2 + 7 x 2 = 26 + 14 = 40 million dollars when you include the luxury tax for next year. It keeps our options open much wider IMO that we kept Walter. However disapointed I was it still means that nothing better was available, and that Mr. Gilbert will be more willing to spend next year.

Don't really wanna be thinking about this right now, trade times over, we gotta concentrate on winning now.

But I damn sure hope we get Bosh this summer.

Sometimes I really hate espn......I'm watching the top 10 plays on sportscenter and Lil Nate's block on Bosh happens to be #2,dude on sportcenter says"Nate Robinson with the block on future New York Knick Great Chris Bosh":thumbdown

A deal for Bosh next year depends mostly on Bosh. Ideally the Cavs would trade for him in the off season, but that's not as likely as a trade deadline deal. If Bosh says he's not resigning with Toronto and wants to play with a contender, the list of teams willing to give up anything for him dwindles. No team in the league is going to give up anything to rent Bosh for half a season, they'll want to be sure he resigns. If Bosh says he wants to play with LeBron, it virtually handcuffs Toronto. They can either get something for him, or wait and get nothing.

It really is all up to Bosh, and then the Cavs would hold all the cards. If he really wants to play with LeBron, it will happen. Even if Toronto keeps him until he expires, theres still a good chance the Cavs could pull a sign and trade for him. Many teams will be under the salary cap in 2010. Some know they have almost no shot at one of the premiere players, but what they do have a shot at is facilitating a sign and trade. One of those under the cap teams could be rewarded for being under the cap by signing and trading Bosh to the Cavs for draft picks, young talent, etc. It really comes down to how much Bosh wants to play with LeBron as well as how much talent is in Cleveland (to ensure that LeBron stays as well).

That's why I was so furious that we didn't trade for Shaq. The holdup was freakin Wally! Seriously?

He had what, 3 points last night? Awesome...

Shaq would have increased our chances of a championship by giving us a low presence we haven't had since... Prolly Boozer.

LBJ is a star, both on and off the court. The last player to reach that level was Shaq. I mean Kobe and Wade are great players, but Shaq sells. I could only imagine how many jerseys we would have sold, how much media attention we would have received, the luxury tax problems next year would have been no big deal.

Fast forward to next year. Say the Raptors realize Bosh will be gone, they want to move him.
You also know that your fanbase, which sucks in Toronto won't be happy.

Even at 36-37, Shaq would sell out games. He's still an attraction. I love Bosh as a player, but only die-hard basketball fans would pay to see him play. He's talented, but he doesn't sell.

Toronto could sell off the attraction of Shaq for 30 or so games.

And let's not forget the addition of Shaq would put us over the top before that. I admit we would have adjustments, but it's hard for me to believe we wouldn't win it all this year.
And we'll find out the hard way this year when we have to deal with Howard, Odom, Bynum, Gasol, or any other skilled big man.

I hate to say that Ferry failed, but when a deal that helps now and into the future is held up by Wally Focking Szczerbiak, then you know something isn't right.

Don't get me wrong, I'll support this team, as I always have.

But the ball was fumbled a bit at the deadline. Ferry waited till the last minute hoping to strike gold. Instead, he struck out.

Bottom line.

If the Cavs win it all, drinks are on me. And I seriously will buy the entire board a drink if we do win the championship.

Even with that my guess is the raptors would want another young talent, unless JJ just totally explodes...

i would give them boobie imo he's completely worthless to us i think when delonte comes back even kinsey will be ahead of him in the lineup because of his good defense and hustle

Maybe, maybe not. I mean, I'm sure Colangelo knows that it will be virtually impossible for a team with one max guy to sign another, especially in the same offseason(due mostly to the cap hold issues). Even if Bosh tries to play hardball, Toronto knows they will still have his Bird Rights. Even if he is willing to sacrifice 20+ million by going elsewhere, how many Championship ready rosters are their out there with 20mil in cap space and a legit roster? If Bosh is all about the money, he'll resign with Toronto. But, he supposedly wants to win Titles. Well, would he be willing to sign for about 12mil per? I doubt it, but that's about what it would take for him to be an option for us. Colangelo knows very well the Cavs will not have enough cap space available to sign Bosh in 2010. Ferry knows we do not have enough to offer Toronto in trade to get Bosh. This Bosh to Cleveland talk is a pipe dream.

If what Mdog posted is true, that is the biggest and the best news we could have heard so far. If Bosh lets BC know over the summer he isn't interested in re-signing, which I have a feeling he may, forget the trade deadline next year...Bosh will be here before training camp. If Bosh was to say something like let's play it out until the deadline, he will be traded anyways because why would BC want to dismantle the team in the middle of the season when they could start anew before the season?

True. If you look at the top teams in the NBA that need a PF there really isnt many:
Pistons- Will save their young guys and sign Bozzer this offseason
Houston- Doesnt have much to give up for a Bosh in young guys.
Cavs- Have Hickson and a few other young guys with all there picks.
Bulls
Porland

I'd say there would be three teams going after Bosh, Porland, Cavs, Bulls. Porland might not even go after Bosh since they have two young bigs. Bulls could make a an alright package but if Hickson keeps getting better they wont even have close to what the cavs could offer. Will Bosh saying already he wants to play with LBJ I'd say if Bosh does get traded next year its 60% shot its to the cavs. Since Ferry knows if we get Bosh, LBJ will almost be a lock to stay if not already, the cavs will be able to offer more. Hickson, Tk/Gibson, 09 first and another first will be over paying.

If Portland didn't offer LA for Amare, IMO they won't for Bosh either. It's really not a big upgrade, LA fits in with their system of not having that 1 dominant star and there's really no point of giving him + others up for Bosh. I think most teams will put down an offer, but we can offer a huge expiring to help Raps quickly rebuild next offseason as well as a young stud in Hickson. They'd probably ask for Gibson (whenever I picture Gibson it's in Toronto, take it for what you will it's my mind :D) too. Ben/Hickson/Gibson, can't give up Andy then, maybe a pick or two, as well as Bosh putting us at the top of his list, and we got him. But I read recently on ESPN an article about the rumored 3-way that had Amare to TOR and Bosh to CHI, and the article said one of Bosh's preferred destinations in 2010 is Chicago.

Yes and who knows if that was even true ESPN seems too make up alot of BS. But Bosh has said he wants to play with LBJ. Unless the bulls get a top 10 pick they wont have a better offer then us anyways unless Hickson just falls apart.
