I'm wondering if the Cavs will use the larger TPE in July next year to get a big man, either to replace Mozgov or Tristan. Personally I think it would be easier to replace Tristan because there's probably more energy PFs out there for cheaper prices than there would be rim protecting 7 footers. I'm not saying it's impossible to re-sign both, but it seems like we would need some insurance and leverage in that situation and without the TPE we would have what, only minimum contracts and some sort of MLE again?
If the Cavs burn the TPE during this midseason for say a wing player, I just wonder if we would have the ability to replace Mozgov or Tristan after the season is over if we're forced to lose one of them (or god forbid somehow we lose both)
I'm sure I'm missing some angles on this, just spitballing here. Any thoughts?
Well we didn't find anything out there this year for cap relief and next year should be worse. Better pay Tristan and Moz both because what you can get for the tpe is worse than both of them and likely much worse.
I think it will be used for smaller deals because it could only realistically be used on a bad contract. Why pick up a bad contract instead of signing guys that are valuable to you to their own bad contracts?
