Browns rant thread.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
That's as scorching a hot take as I've ever seen

I don't think it's a hot take at all. When you watch New Orleans, you notice that Thomas benefits from Brees firing passes into very tight windows very often. He struggles to get separation against NFL secondaries. He would not have been anywhere near as good in Cleveland as he is in New Orleans.

Of course Brees makes him better, but I don't see him struggling to get separation. This isn't a shitty college QB that Brady or Brees is making relevant in the NFL. He's always been a good WR.

Just because he's not lightning fast doesn't mean he can't get open. Was Jerry Rice only good because of Montana & Young?

Thomas was the best WR in that draft. By a longshot. Giving all the credit to Brees just seems like a hot take to defend teams who took worse WRs before he was picked.

So the rumors are pretty much that Haslam is trying to get Peyton to remake the 2000's Indianapolis Colts organization sans you know...Peyton Manning taking snaps.

But it puzzles me because this isn't the type of organization guys who have "retired" generally go to. That's generally reserved for teams like the Panthers, Jaguars, Dolphins, Bucs, Cardinals, etc.

Unless this is some sort of Holmgren-esque scam, it just seems really odd that any of these guys want to go from doing cushy studio work to dealing with a bad franchise in a bad weather market.

Side note...are the uniforms OK State is wearing today the units the Browns rejectedfrom Nike? Look 100x better than the current garbage.

Hire Peyton as president, polian as advisor, dungy as HC and trade for luck. Get it done jimmy.

I mean I would be doing backflips if that was the staff, but I would be a bit puzzled as to why Dungy wants back in the game at this point.

I mean he's already in the hall now. Same with Polian. I'd love it, but i'm beyond confused by how all three are linked to this franchise.

It’s a mega long shot just throwing it out. Coaches always seem to get the itch to come back and dungy isn’t that old. And polian is too old to have a major role but advisor would suit him. Just depends on how much they’d want to work for Peyton.

I mean he isn't, but I've never seen his name thrown around since he's left the game.

I've heard Cowher's. I've heard Gruden's. I've never heard his of all things. Which is kinda stunning considering the Miami, Tampa, Jacksonville, Arizona, Los Angeles and San Diego gigs have all been open since he's been out of the league.

Those are generally the "bait" to lure coaches of his caliber to coach.

It says a lot about the state of the franchise when the Rant thread becomes the primary thread on a topic.

The Browns deserve it, they are that bad. Only one direction they can go from here.

I understand the level of frustration. My personal response is to still root for the team but the level of importance I place on them in proportional to the level of importance they deserve which is minimal at best. At this point the team is almost a passing curiosity but that way I can still stomach watching the games.

This team simply isn't worth getting worth worked up over, say, the way it's worth getting worked up when the Cavs are in the finals or the Indians are trying to get to the WS. Therefore I have a hard time getting the level of angst some folks get worked up over this team, just back off your expectations and investment until they deserve more of yourself as a fan.

I just tune in and watch, and anything the Browns do well with is just a pleasant surprise. When they fuck up I just SMH and think they're still the same bad team. The team is in purgatory in my mind and only they can dig themselves out. The rest of the speculation... the possible front office moves, future draft choices, etc. are all just details that don't matter much until a whole lot of them come together in the right ways that translate into wins.

I can actually root for and enjoy the team and the season with this mindset.

This team over the past three seasons is...I think historically bad.

3-13 3 Pro Bowlers- (Thomas, Mack, Barnrige)
1-15 1 Pro Bowlers- (Thomas) (Mack? Gone. Barnridge? Gone.)
0-7

There's...just...not a lot of really redeeming qualities right now across the board.

It's stunning. I'm trying to come up with 3 years a franchise has been that bad in recent memories. Even the teams surrounding the 2008 lions had better records.

You know for those people freaking out over Polian...I can at least kinda look at his track record and see that it's never been that bad with the franchises he's been associated with

It's really indefensible at this point. There's really not a lot of people you can defend in this organization sans a couple of players. I'm not saying fire them if no one's available but if there was some people think they can right this ship? You're not in a position to say no.

It's just disappointing to see Crowell play so badly. I really rooted for the guy since he was undrafted and one of the most consistent players on the team for the past couple years. Honestly, he should've been demoted a while ago and maybe even cut. We have one of the best offensive lines in football, there's no excuse to look this bad.
