Browns rant thread.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Good teams find ways to win even with bad offense and defense performances. Even with an average defense they still can't find a way to win because they are poorly coached and mental midgets.

I don't even know why you are saying this when literally nobody is arguing that we are a good team.

You could make the case that the first 5 games last year was the best stretch of football in this horrific two year stretch. They actually played well vs Baltimore and Miami and Washington. It was a lot more acceptable because it was year one that they were losing games that were competive before they turned into expansion football the last 9 games. I will give you that they at least looked like a non expansion team today, but that is a pretty low bar two years in with two off seasons to add talent.

We've already had as many competitive games as last season and we still have 5 games left to play.

So losing by two touchdowns is now something to be happy about two years into the plan?

They are the ones that decided not to keep Mitchell Swartz, Travis Benjamin and Gabriel and not draft players like Wentz and sign Kenny Britt. They are the ones that are counting on a player who is three years out of the league to be thier best play maker and save them from 0 and 16. No one expected 10 wins in year one or year two. But you are worse than the 3 and 13 team two years ago under Pettine. Plain and simple.

That team had the most expensive defense in the league and they were trying to win games. They were all in on winning under Pettine. This is not worse. We didn't spend money to try and make a playoff push only to go 1-26. They clearly made a decision to tank and rebuild but there are some people who for some reason are totally against it which makes absolutely no sense considering what we have seen since 99. It feels like there's a lot of people upset with tanking and would rather be stuck on the treadmill.

First, the Browns were arguably missing their top three players today (Gordon, Thomas, Collins). Second, Corey Coleman screwed us, Njoku screwed us, and Hue called a bunch of garbage plays and had another terrible challenge. And third, it's a young team.

I still think the FO has done a great job except for the Peppers pick. Remember Hue worked out Wentz and didn't want him.

Hue is a shitty coach.
Gordon has not played a down in over 3 years. They never expected anything out of him as part of the plan this year, nor should they assume they can count on him for next year. His addiction will be a life long battle.

That's not what I sad. Now you are just trying to cherry pick. You brought up how we were competitive in games last year and I proved to you that we have had just as many competitive games this year with 5 games still left to play.

The last two weeks were two touchdown loses, but they were “competive games” I just don’t think that is something that should be seen as an accomplishment at the NFL level unless you are a true expansion team.

Nobody said that you should. But when you say the team hasn't shown progress that's just not true when they have had more competitive games with games still left to play and a top 10 defense. It would be different if we were getting blown out every game and regressed in every area. that's just not the case.

Nobody is asking you to be happy. Just when people start whining like we have been worst in every aspect it's annoying. It's like people who don't watch games and read box scores and form opinions.

And they're not.

"Well you just look at the boxscore". No...I've seen the games. While I see some promise with this defense it feels like that's been derailed by injuries and sheer ineptitude within the coaching department.

Same could be said about the offense, though I think more of that has to do with their inaction/inability to address the receiving position.

I'm not denying that there is some talent on this team. But I can tell you I wouldn't trust a single person upstairs and on the sidelines to draft a QB among other things.

They botched the evaluations of Wentz, Watson while also botching the development of a promising QB in the form of Kizer.

Bottom line? A competent coaching staff would have had 3-4 wins against this slot of teams. And they didn't. They've completely failed.

I think hue needs to go after this year and I really hate that I feel that way. I don't want constant turnover. For the sake of argument, lets say that Hue stays this year and we win... idk... 1 game this year. Hue would be 2-30 as a coach for the browns. How many wins next year does Hue need to justify getting a year 4? Id say hes going to need to contend for a playoff spot for a good portion of the year (7-9 ish?) to keep his job. Were going to have a rookie QB next year, and even if we get a bridge QB thats still more roster turnover that makes me feel that a significant jump is going to occur next year. maybe if we throw a billion dollars at cousins? I dont see hue jackson being the head coach in 2 years, so i dont see the point of him being the coach next year.

IMO, we should keep the current FO- because they have been able to draft talented players and under the provision that they end the vet purges and tanking this offseason. fire hue and get a HC that doesnt try to be a position coach/OC. Hire an experienced offensive coordinator. also hire a DC that runs a 4-3 base D. we have so much more talent on the front line vs our linebackers. pray that the team doesnt look like ass in 2018

If you want to argue in favor of Sashi, while going "time to dump the coaching staff"?

I'll hear that out. In my view the fact that a supposed "QB guru" has completely botched the evaluation of the position speaks volumes.

Not only in terms of just drafting one, but probably completely stalling the development of one you currently have on the roster.

I'm with @Los216 on this one.

The Browns suck but this simpleton mindset of just pointing to the record and yelling is dumb. The Browns still suck but they are in a MUCH better place than last year.

I mean, fuck. We have a legit superstar franchise cornerstone DE, and we are about to finally have the #1 pick in a draft with a worthy #1 overall QB who's biggest red flag is that some people think he's a dick.

I'll keep saying it and I don't mind that I keep getting laughed at...

0-11 (and probably 0-16) be damned. The. Browns. Are. Not. That. Far. Off.

And maybe herpes.

Our list of needs:

1. A coach that isn't completely fucking inept.
2. Solid QB play. I assume the draft will address this.
3. Coleman to stay healthy, plus adding another WR (could be Gordon; not counting on that).
4. A better secondary.
5. More general defensive depth.
6. A RB to replace Crowell. I like Duke a lot, but I don't think he's a workhorse back.

As far as six goes, I'd like to see us use Duke and our other back (be it Hyde or someone we draft) interchangeably rather than putting Duke out there solely as the satellite back. I'd also shift Duke to a receiver role from time to time since he's proven he can do that.

I think just addressing the first two and having Coleman stay healthy for a whole season (and/or Gordon playing well) would go a long way toward making this team at least respectable.
