Carter Almost A Cavalier?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Carter was almost a Cav?

I dont know man...if there were no other options available, I'd do that.

If this were a mid-season trade, Id be all over because I know there was nothing else to bank on...

At this point, we are never going to be under the cap so his length of contract really isn't an issue.

Could he really help us win is the question???

Re: Carter was almost a Cav?

You people are pissed because we didn't deal WALLY for Vince Carter? Please.. Carter is a much better option than Wally is, or Sasha. I don't really want Vince, but hes basically the last option. Looks like a long, boring off season is ahead of us.. Again.

Yes, we don't have anyone on this team other than LeBron that could put up 20ppg on any given night. If Ray Allen can help the Celts Vince Carter could help the Cavs.

Even if he got hurt it wouldn't crush the team. It'd just be like one of those nights where Wally went 2-13 or something. Wally for VC would have been sweet. It would have shown LeBron we aren't messing around and given him a pretty damn good sidekick.

Who cares whether or not we help the Nets get cap room, they're going to go after him in 2010 and we know this. We're going to try to keep him...whatever.

Win now and it'll encourage LeBron to stick around.

Re: Carter was almost a Cav?

Now I just heard there's a rumor about the Cavs and Golden ST, on KNR..something about Wally/AV/Damon for Davis..here we go ..

Re: Carter was almost a Cav?

this trade will most likely come up again this summer...and it might actually happen next time.

Re: Carter was almost a Cav?

I'd forgive Ferry and toss in a lapdance if he reels in Baron Davis for our trash..

Re: Carter was almost a Cav?

Ferry probably has better plans

Re: Carter was almost a Cav?

These types of rumors should quiet the "Danny sits on his hands" crowd, but they won't.

Pretty slick if he was trying to pull-off a VC deal right around the same time he said:

“I believe in continuity,” general manager Danny Ferry said. “Keeping a group together is usually the right thing. … I’m not aggressively out there trying to do anything.”

Re: Carter was almost a Cav?

Keep in mind, even if we trade our expiring contracts for Carter and his huge four year deal, we still have something like $25 million in expiring contracts after next season thanks to Ben Wallace and big Z.

Re: Carter was almost a Cav?

I would do this deal in a second. Vince Carter can still play at an all-star level - when he wants to. He is exactly the type of player we need - a player who can create his own shot, pick up the scoring when Lebron is on the bench and make our opponents pay for double and triple teaming Lebron.

Vince Carter still has some good basketball left in him, he just needs to be in a situation where he has a chance to win. Remember when he was in Toronto and everyone thought he was injury prone and on the decline? Then he was traded to New Jersey and he looked like a completely different player. A trade to Cleveland and the opportunity to win a championship with Lebron will be just the motivation VC needs.

The only reason I would not trade for VC is if it prevents us from signing a big name free agent (Wade, Amare, Bosh) in 2010. Since the chances of that happening are very slim, I think we must take a win now attitude. The addition of VC makes us better than any team in East and a legit title contender for the next 3-4 years. Any fan holding onto the pipe dream of Milwaukee giving us Michael Redd needs to step away from the bong. If this is the best Ferry can get with Wally's expiring contract, I say DO IT NOW!

I'd take Carter, assuming we can't get someone better.

NJ is going to clear cap space for 2010 no matter what we do. If we can get something for nothing (VC for Wally), why not? And it's not like LBJ is the only potential free agent in 2010 who NJ would covet.

I'm in the same camp as some others here... not quite convinced that Carter would lead us to the promised land. Is he better than Wally? No question. Is he our missing piece? Not sure.

This deal is a no brainer. Too bad Ferry didnt pull it off. People tend to forget that VC is still a prime time player and he defends, is a ball handler and can guard 2,3 and some 4's.

That move gets Cle in contention for several rings.
