I'd throw in AV, Sasha, Joe Smith, etc., to make this deal done...
Although I can't see the New Jersey Nets trying to help LeBron out and win a championship...
I don't get why people are so down on Carter...
Beside his age, I don't see any major problems...
First off, offensively... He is exactly the type of player we need next to LeBron... He's the type of player that can take over games and create for others when LeBron is not in or not healthy... He's the type of player that can lead a team, more so then Redd or anyone else out there... He has experience doing it and knows how to... The Nets went 11-18 without Jason Kidd... But I think that is a big improvement over what we would be without LeBron in Cleveland... After Kidd left, he was putting up real nice numbers, and pretty efficiently, not to mention he was getting around 6-7 assists per night...
He's an efficient scorer and it's what I love most about him... He can score (he's scored upwards of 20PPG in 9 out of 11 years), but the can do it efficiently... His FG% last year was 45.6%, which is 1 percentage point above his career average... His 3PT% was at 36% last year, 1.5 percentage points below his career average... His FT% was 82% which was up 3 percentages points from his career average... But what was most impressive was that all his %'s increased each year in NJN, showing that he's not on the decline...
His TS% was up around 55%, which is pretty decent... His PER was just below 19... His USG rate was 24.4, which was 27th in the league... His effective FG% on jumpers was 46%...
Not to mention the Nets were +9.4 offensively with him... And in the past years it's been around that area too... So not only is he efficient but he also effects those around him positively, as the team seems to play a lot better with him on the court offensively...
Also I don't want to forget that he ranks pretty favorably in 4th quarter scoring and in Super Clutch and Clutch scoring... And you know how we suck in the 3rd quarter? That happens to be one of VC's best, last year...
Defensively, he's solid too... While he's not an All-NBA defender, he's definitely better than Redd and has actually put up solid OPP PERs the last 3 years at the SG spot (14.3, 14.3, 14.8) and the team has done well with him on the court (-4.0, +1.0, -5.9)...
And to top of all these stats... His Roland Rating, the last 3 years, has pretty much been consistently around the high 8's and low 9's, and even up to the 11's... That ranks around the top 15-20 players in the league and I think it's pretty safe to say that he earns his money worth...
Now I know everyone discusses him being soft and injury prone... But I don't really care if he is soft or not... As long as he brings hims proven game and is the #2 option we need... I mean how soft and injury prone can guy be when he's only missed 9 games the last 3 years and 25 the last 5 years...
And the thing I love most about him is that he's consistent... He's not one of those streaky shooters or streaky players... He's a guy who puts up those stats every night and makes his impact felt...
My other concern I have with him, beside age, is his playoff history... He hasn't faired well in the playoffs in his career... But I wonder how he would do as a #2 option as opposed to a #1 option...
Overall, I would like to get Carter... I just wonder how productive he would be ending his prime and going out of his prime... Although, he was shown no signs of letting up...
