It’s been a relatively uneventful summer for the Cavaliers.

All that could change if a three-team trade rumor has any substance to it.

A league source said the Cavs might be pursuing Bucks point guard Mo Williams. All the details aren’t known, but the Cavs, Bucks and Oklahoma City (formerly Seattle) are reportedly involved.

Bucks general manager John Hammond has made it known he has no intention of parting with shooting guard Michael Redd, a longtime target of the Cavs.

Perhaps Cavs general manager Danny Ferry went for the next best thing.

If Williams is headed to the Cavs, however, would Delonte West be included in such a deal? He’s a restricted free agent who has been a regular at Cleveland Clinic Courts for much of the summer. It wouldn’t make any sense to have Williams and West on the same roster since both expects to be starters.

If West is involved, though, it would have to be in a sign-and-trade. The Cavs have been embroiled in a contract dispute with West since July 1.

Oklahoma City probably wouldn’t want him back. The SuperSonics sent West to the Cavs in a blockbuster trade on Feb. 21. The Sonics drafted UCLA point guard Russell Westbrook in June and already have Luke Ridnour and Earl Watson on their roster.

In fact, Oklahoma City might want to dump one of its two backup point guards.

The Cavs would have to have reservations about Williams’ bloated contract. He has five years remaining on his deal, including the 2008-09 season, worth more than $43 million. He’ll make $8.4 million this season and owns a player option for 2012-13.

For a team trying to clear the deck of salaries, that wouldn’t make sense.

When Williams was a free agent in the summer of 2007, the Cavs reportedly made him an offer. However, he re-signed with the Bucks.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Williams is good, but is he a difference-maker? Would he allow the Cavs to get to another round of the playoffs?

Some have questioned how Redd would have fit in with superstar LeBron James. The same questions could be asked about Williams, who is a prolific scorer who is used to getting his shots.

He’s shredded the Cavs over the years. He’s not known as being a top defender, even though he boasts quickness and speed. He has appeared in just five career playoff games.

He averaged 17.2 points and 6.3 assists and shot 48 percent from the field and 39 percent from behind the 3-point arc last season.

Another scenario would be for the Cavs to offer only expiring contracts for Williams. Forward Joe Smith ($4.8 million) and guard Damon Jones ($4.6 million) would get the job done. Ironically, they were teammates in Milwaukee in 2003-04.

Staying home

Rumors of Cavs second-round draft pick Darnell Jackson playing overseas are false.

The power forward is planning on being at the Cavs’ training camp.

“He’s staying here with the Cavs,” agent Roger Montgomery said. “I’m currently in the process of working on a contract. We’re pretty close. I anticipate something to happen soon.

“He’s going to be a good, quality NBA player.”

Montgomery said Jackson reminds him of native Clevelander Charles Oakley.

Montgomery, who also represents Bucks swingman Desmond Mason and twins Stephen and Joey Graham, said he did talk to some teams overseas.

The Cavaliers offered Williams the full MLE last year I was told.

Bob said he was going on vacation. I guess he is still working the phones.

Re: Cavs After Mo Williams?

West is a combo guard and the Cavs had some of the worst SG play in the league last year. I'm sure they could find minutes for him at the 2 if they were sold on Mo Williams and wanted West in the mix at the same time.

Re: Cavs After Mo Williams?

Snag Mo from the Bucks, and Wilcox from Oklahoma City and call it a summer.

No one rock the Mo avatar or this will never happen!

Oh boy, another 12 pages arguing over different trade ideas, only to be let down in the end....

Re: Cavs After Mo Williams?

Since Yi Jianlian is no longer in Milwaukee, I can also see Charlie Villanueva for Andy being a part too. I'd also ask OKC about Robert Swift.

No, first youre going to have the expanded 4 team 15 player super trade by a Trade Checker addict. Add to that the misapplied 82games.com stats, the 50 rep Wine N Gold post that ultimately shapes the majority opinion, the PIP photoshop or post that will make us chuckle outloud at our keyboards, the sobering rational Douglar post then you get to the arguing and ultilmately back to the Danny Ferry bashing.

Re: Cavs After Mo Williams?

Word is........ Wine & Gold is reporting that the Cavs are in talks with Milwaukee and OKC about a 3-way deal involving Maurice Williams.

Joking aside... Mo Williams would complement the 2 needs that we have, another scorer for LeBron James and a Point Guard to run the offense. I consider Mo a poor man's more perimeter oriented Baron Davis - which I think a lot of fans here would love to have.

Re: Cavs After Mo Williams?

I for one will never want Mo Williams here. Ever.

There's just something about his game I don't like. What worries me even more about this idea is that more than likely, Watson is getting dumped. Does that mean Cleveland takes back both of them? What does that mean for West? I would more than likely see Watson being the piece moving to Milwaukee, but I'm not sure what we sent to OKC to make this deal happen.

To be quite honest with you, this just doesn't sound like a reputable rumor. I could see Milwaukee having interest in Watson, but I don't see the numbers adding up across the board.

Not in a 3 team deal. Although, with the way the CBA is, it'd probably end up being treated as 4 seperate trades or something ridiculous. Mo Wil doesn't defend. I doubt Mike Brown can change that. From all I've heard about Mo Wil's attitude, I don't think he fits in Cleveland in any scheme. He's just not a winner.

Re: Cavs After Mo Williams?

I'm tired of all the half-ass rumors out there. Someone wake me when the Cavs have a legitimate shot to win a 'ship. I used to think they done could, but now I don't; so sue me.

Whats W&G got to say?

Whats W&G got to say?

Alright I think it's time I said something,

Over the past few weeks I've seen this pattern grow and grow. Every new thread, every new rumor someone says " What's W&G think about this? " "Wheres W&G "

Guys, he is an insider, and as much as I love hearing him say this or that, I don't think we should revolve the whole message board around him. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE his posts, they're insightful and very promising, but I don't think we should have to rely on W&G to have a discussion about this or that,

Anyways,

W&G? Are we getting MO? :chuckles:

Re: Cavs After Mo Williams?

I've been answering PM's about the possibility of this trade happening for the past couple days. All I can say right now is that when I was there on Thursday no mention was made to me of it.

That being that, I know someone who says that he has heard of this possibly happening, but, that if it doesn't happen in the next few days then it won't. He's a pretty informed guy who always has good info.

So, this one is going to have to fly without me until Tuesday, that's the next time I'll have contact with anyone that would know anything. Sorry.

More than I have on it, that's for sure ...

It wouldn't surprise me if something happened with Milwaukee, we've been talking with them for a long long time. What would surprise me is if it happened now, and for the players mentioned.

I would have thought that ultimately any trade that would involve the Cavs and Milwaukee would have AV, and Redd involved ...

Now, what does surprise me is the change in direction for Darrell Jackson. He was all but signed, sealed, and delivered to a Euro team at the Vegas Tournament. That's when I saw his agent, and he told me that he had some nice options in place for him, and that would most likely be where he ends up this season.

Proves to me that sometimes the more you know, the less realize you really know.... at least that's what the case is with both issues addressed in this subject line... if they actually happen I would be off on both of them.
