Re: Cavs sign Earl Clark for 2yrs/$9M

It just saddens me that Bennett can't even keep Clark off the floor...

Re: Cavs sign Earl Clark for 2yrs/$9M

You guys can enlighten me because I'm pretty clueless when it comes to salary things, but what all can we do with an expiring?

Clark and Gee could be used in a mega-combo package (with other players/picks) to match salaries for an excellent player (or an expensive player that is expiring).

Clark and Gee could be used together to acquire a mid-level player with a contract that extends into 2014-2015 or longer. Seems less likely with the Cavs apparently not wanting to eat up that salary.

Clark and Gee (separately or together) could be used to match salary in a trade for another player with an expiring contract. Because Clark and Gee are not exactly excelling right now, that might mean the Cavs would have to send out some talented young player or a pick of some kind to make it worthwhile for the other team. Perhaps one or both could be sent out for a disgruntled player who has been struggling or has asked for a trade and so on.

Those are some options.

Trade Clark gee and jack to Chicago for boozer and amnesty him in the off season to create cap space.

Cavs already amnestied Baron Davis. Only get one.

Plus teams cannot amnesty players they sign, receive in trade, extend, renegotiate, or otherwise amend after July 1, 2011.

The Cavs cannot use the amnesty clause as they used it on Baron Davis. It's a one time deal.

I've thought some about trading for Frye, who fits that second option you gave. He's probably not in Phoenix's plans (he's 30 years old and they have Len, Plumlee, and the Morris twins in the frontcourt), so if they choose to tank they might look to trade him for expirings and a little sweetener.

It depends on just how adamant the Cavs are about not adding more salary going into the off-season. Other than the contract for Jack, the Cavs haven't given out any guaranteed money for 2014-2015 to anyone except their draft picks (and perhaps partial guarantees to Dellavedova and Sims). They have prioritized that above virtually anything else.

Re: Cavs sign Earl Clark for 2yrs/$9M

We also have Onuaku down there who could play 10 minutes a night for us at PF. He's 6'9" 275 and averaging 23 points on 66% shooting, 12.5 boards, 2 blocks per 36 minutes. I'm, like, 100000% certain he's better than Clark.

I feel like we could play a cardboard cut-out of LeBron making a mean face at the four and that would be an upgrade over Clark.

Definite upgrade over Clark right now. The included trash can could also set screens for Dion and make the game feel just like his practices.

Re: Cavs sign Earl Clark for 2yrs/$9M

Clark has been playing a lot better lately. He doesn't have to do too much besides shoot and pump and drive. AIts an easy place that he's in and if he can consistently do this, he'd be group at off the bench in the future. IMO. He has shown flashes of this and also on the defense of end too. I guess we can only see what he does...

a bit better, not a lot. He has been too inconsistent to say a lot. I like that he has gotten more aggressive instead of just taking the 3s that had stopped falling. Last night was his best game in a while.

Re: Cavs sign Earl Clark for 2yrs/$9M

Don't let Clark and Gee fool you with their occasional spectacular dunks. They still suck.

Re: Cavs sign Earl Clark for 2yrs/$9M

The bar isn't set too high with expectations for either. Gee doesn't have to do anything but sit there and watch the game. Clark just needs to give us 10 minutes without hurting us.

Re: Cavs sign Earl Suck for 2yrs/$9M

Earl Clark is the least of our problems.
