Re: Cavs sign Earl Clark for 2yrs/$9M

This might go down as the worst free agent signing of the last several years by ANY NBA GM, coupled with the last draft and Chris Grant is really on a nice roll.....

You clearly don't get around to other parts of the NBA.

Off the top of my head...

Nene
Rudy Gay
Amare Stoudemire
Joe Johnson
JR Smith

So ya, Clark may suck but his contract is in no way the worst.

Some recent past ones: Gilbert Arenas, Rashard Lewis (before he got the vet min), Jermaine O'Neal all had massive contracts, but either got injured and/or just didn't live up to them for one reason or another. Hell, even Kobe's new contract is pretty ridiculous. Shaq's contract by the time he got to Cleveland was pretty terrible at 20m a year. Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva were pretty terrible signings by Detroit, too. The list goes on . . . Earl Clark's contract isn't really bad at all. It's an expiring both this year and next year, and it was 4.5m for a backup 4 who at least spreads the floor well.

Isaiah Thomas had Bill Lambier. Kyrie Irving has Earl Clark.

Re: Cavs sign Earl Clark for 2yrs/$9M

-17 in just 9 minutes tonight.

Since the Deng trade we've been -50 with Clark on the court and +28 with Clark on the bench. 1-man tanking machine right here...

His badness overwhelms you.

Do we still owe RCF $1 for games like this where Clark doesn't start, yet still sabotages any chance of a win?

Earl f-ing Clark. I hate this guy. No way we go for that team option for a 2nd year, right?

Meh. He's overpaid, but he's essentially on a one-year deal. It's virtually impossible to be one of the worst free agent signings in the NBA when you can be cut after one season with no payroll implications.

There are plenty of NBA guys with truly bad contracts in the league. Clark is not one of them.

Re: Cavs sign Earl Clark for 2yrs/$9M

Even with his horrendous play lately, Clark's contract has trade value as an expiring contract. Maybe we can trade him for a backup PF? That's the new biggest hole on the team right now that we have filled the starting SF hole..

Re: Cavs sign Earl Clark for 2yrs/$9M

I still think Clark has talent. He has actually played less minutes than Derrick Williams, who has a similar style of play. Clark is still a prospect in reality, CLE just thought they were getting an established presence

Please stop huffing nitrogen while posting.

Re: Cavs sign Earl Clark for 2yrs/$9M

^ he did play well earlier this year, but we clearly need quite a bit more out of the backup PF position than he's giving us lately. All he really needs to do is not hurt us while he's on the court.

Re: Cavs sign Earl Clark for 2yrs/$9M

We do need another big. Earl Clark, for four years, was a 10-12th man in the league. Last year was an aberration. He's an end of the bench, only gets time at the end of games when it's already decided or when your team is devastated by injuries, player.
