Cavs/Bucks and Ilyasova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Ilyasova to visit Cavs this week

If we sign him to that kind of money, which he may be actually worth, I think it would have to mean that AV is on his way out. Then we could have TT take over the Andy role of backup PF and C, which I think he would thrive at. I have always looked at TT as an eventual AV replacement with more athleticism and a higher upside.

so your saying Ilasovya will sit on the bench the last 12 minutes of games while Thompson actually plays starter minutes.

That was Andys role as back up to hickson. Did you already forget about Zeller?

Re: Ilyasova to visit Cavs this week

I'm gonna be THAT GUY and say don't get your hopes up because this is Cleveland and we never get what we want.

Re: Ilyasova to visit Cavs this week

I like Ilyasova but I'm not big on this move. Tristan needs minutes and the Cavs should be protecting their investment of a top 5 pick by giving him run as a starter. Not sure how that happens if Ilyasova is making $9M a year.

I'm talking pre decision era Andy, where he gets plenty of minutes as the first big off the bench. I think TT would be great as a super Sub. And no, Zeller does not change what I said.

Re: Ilyasova to visit Cavs this week

DX has the story about his age, including the theory he was born in 1984 and not 1987. You have to go to the very beginning of the profile.

I've not heard anything further about this controversy.

The fact he had such a big jump in productivity last year for the Bucks may suggest he is 25, since it is rare to see such improvements for a 27/28 year old.

Advanced metrics generally rate him highly... PER was 20.55 this past year.

The jump in Ilyasova's rebounding rate could be traced to the fact he didn't have to share much court time with Andrew Bogut last season, but that doesn't explain his Price-like 3P accuracy or his uptick in blocked shots.

If I were to guess what kind of PER he'd put up next season as a Cav, I'd suspect somewhere between his last two seasons.

Would he still be worth over $9M per season to some of you if his production fell to 17 PER?

Re: Ilyasova to visit Cavs this week

Do not like any move that gets this guy for more than 2 years. We at least need to see what Tristan can do this year and next, and if we pay a guy 8-10 million a year to come here, he's going to eat up to many of his minutes.

Re: Ilyasova to visit Cavs this week

Ilyasova is a very good fit but would he come here to be a backup? Brings exactly what the Cavs need in their big man rotation.
Bucks are pretty deep at PF and have used 1st round picks on PF's 2 of the last 3 seasons including this year. They have Henson, Gooden, Sanders, Udoh, and Mbah a Moute who can all play PF. Might be as good an opportunity here as in Milwaukee.
There's a chance but I wouldn't like going over $8 million a season. Ilyasova being unrestricted is a plus.

Re: Ilyasova to visit Cavs this week

Don't see us signing him. He'll use our interest to up offers from either Milwaukee or Brooklyn, or both.

Re: Ilyasova to visit Cavs this week

Getting this guy for less than 10 mil per is a great signing imo. He's a bonifide starting 4 and would allow us to move Andy if/when we see how Zeller pans out, along with TT's progression. I'd prefer Tristan in a role similar to Andy and I think that would be a nice role for him. And as has been mentioned, he could also stretch the floor at the 3 maybe? with a lineup including tristan and Andy or Zeller. Not sure how that would play out but I like the options it would give us on the frontcourt end for the next few years. I'd give him 4 year's at 42-44 mil. but he probably signs elsewhere for more.

yeah andy was back up to hickson pre decision. mike brown. always had andy on the court the last five minutes of the game.

Andy was the starter in the playoffs for 2009 team and should of been the starter for the 2008 playoffs. AV should of been made the starter as soon as drew gooden was shown the door

Re: Ilyasova to visit Cavs this week

This is the one guy worth the Cavs' dime and time in free agency.

We need another scorer and the stretch four seems to be an integral part of what the Cavs want to do offensively. I like the idea of Thompson coming off the bench. Tristan, to me, most closely resembles Taj Gibson at this point in his career. First big off the bench that ignites the second unit.

If they can get him for somewhere between 8-9 million a year, I'd consider it a good deal. I don't think this one little splurge would hurt considering next year's free agent class is even weaker than this one's.

Re: Ilyasova to visit Cavs this week

Fill the bench? Please...This guy is our starting 4 if we sign him. First off, offer him a few more million a year than Milwaukee, maybe even poison pill the deal to put Milwaukee in some sort of a bind. In addition to money, you can also promise him a larger role here. Monta and Jennings are going to be chucking up lots of shots, and Ilyasova's touches could be limited. With a better PG here, more of the offense could run through him and with a greater effect. This guys does everything Jamison can do except can also play some more defense and rebound better. Pair him with Andy, and Tristan with Zeller and you have a nice rotation of big men right there.

Re: Ilyasova to visit Cavs this week

We need a big whos a weapon offensively and someone to space the floor with waiters and kyrie. That lane is gonna be crowded as hell between andy, TT, Zeller, Waiters,Gee and Irving

Re: Ilyasova to visit Cavs this week

Ilyasova would be the perfection option to use to either replace or pair WITH Tristan for long periods of time. TT-Ilyasova and Varejao-Zeller would be a very profitable rotation for a long time.
