Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm not trying to be confrontation at all. But, I'm really curious why most people are so in love with Jimmy G. He was drafted in the 2nd round by the Pats. He played 1 and 1/2 games this year for them (managing to get hurt). Now, the Pats are asking a 1st round pick for him at minimum. What am I missing? Was he really that impressive in the six quarters he played for them this season? And, even if he was, it was only six quarters. That can't be enough work for him to have elevated in everyone's mind since he was drafted.
I feel the exact same way. I think its a combination of Bill/Tom/system rubbing off on hime and the Pats/Bill pumping this BS through the media.

Just for an FYI, Davis Webb is no longer a sleeper or a 3rd round guy.

Ive seen a lot of people peg him as late 1st now. Some think he is QB1

I could see keeping O, and drafting Watson or another qb..you have to stabilize the line and running game first anyway, so you don't just throw your high draft QB into a meat grinder.. if someone offers picks for him then great..or if he has a decent year, his value goes up and you trade him out..

There was some discussion on here during the season about Dak and how good Kessler would have looked behind that offensive line.

It seems likely that we'll get to see a fairly accurate adaptation this season.

My problem with Kessler is that he just doesn't have the arm that you need. That isn't going to change behind a better line or with more weapons. He has a good head on his shoulders. And, I think he'll improve in time. But, I see a backup with him. To compensate for a weaker arm, you'd need to either be remarkably accurate, anticipate well, have incredible rapport with the receivers, something of that nature. I don't see anything exceptional with Kessler there. With Kessler, I see a decent young prospect with limited arm talent. So, I'm not sure there is a point in going forward with him as the starter. The Browns should try to do better.

I can answer that without 14 layers of snark:

Garoppolo's value on the eyes of the Patriots really should be the story here. Here's a guy who will likely be eligible for free agency in a year and get big offers, but the Patriots don't want to lose him this year. It's pretty telling for a team that wants to win another Super Bowl this year. I'd point to the breakdown Phills14 posted from Cosell: He isn't perfect, but he's a starter on many teams in the NFL.

On to Webb: The big argument against him used to be, "Well, he couldn't beat out Goff and look how much Goff struggled". To that I'd say they are different people with different areas of the game to work on. I don't want Webb starting in 2017, but there wasn't much drop off in Berkeley this season.

They're probably just keeping him around to cover for Tom Brady's inevitable four game suspension for some sort of cheating. :chuckle:

I disagree - like 33 is a HUGE commitment. You don't want to use a 1st rounder, yet 33 is OK to burn on a QB? Dude, 33 in an NFL draft will get us a stud. There are 22 positions on the field. Chances are, 33 will have our scouts' favorite player at multiple positions. Webb isn't worth 33.

I'd be shocked if we went QB at 33. I just don't see it. Time will tell, but there's so many Browns fans that act like 2nd and 3rd round picks are for taking chances. In the context of the draft, where every pick is a chance, these definitely aren't the picks to be constantly burning on a QB.

I dont want to go number 12 if Trubisky and Watson are gone, but i do like Webb now and be happy to take him with 33.

Its a great position i agree, but have to use it on someone, Webb could be a very good pro qb with proper coaching and likely gone by our next pick.

That is why i say if he is there at 33, we should take him.

The big arguement is trash because he wasn't at Cal when Goff was. He transferred after Goff left.

That's a damn good argument.

Hue and the Browns staff worked with Webb at the Senior Bowl South team, I'm sure they have a good read on him.

I really hope he is available to us at reasonable/value spot. He is my favorite QB out of the crop.

Ideal situation (obviously Garrett #1) would be top defensive prospect at #12 and he is available at #33.

Obviously it is early and Pro Days will definitely shake things up. Either way - this will be a fun draft!

Granted, he did sit behind Mahomes but they're my two favorite QBs in the draft. But it's really like;

Mahomes

Davis
Watson
