Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just because the threads were getting confusing, I moved the Pryor talk to Browns Offseason.

Getting back to the QB situation, the downside on Mitchell is that he isn't Myles Garrett. If the Browns really feel he has to be a Brown, they have the chance to trade up from #12, but I don't know if he is good enough for the price of a trade up. I personally would be shocked if he is still there at #12 because he is a good developmental QB prospect in a league desperate for them.
So if all goes to plan, we get Garrett #1, and we know Mitchell won't last till 12, would you prefer a trade up from 12 with the abundance of draft picks we have? or stay pat at 12, take bpa and take a flyer on a project QB in maybe the 2nd or 3rd. This is all assuming JG falls through. Or just roll with Kessler? I'm just not a fan of another flyer late Rd QB. Would be nice to have a quarterback to come in that gives us some hope or something to get excited about now that we actually have a line to protect em.

Trubisky has some good tools and actually wants to be a Brown, but not worth losing first or second rounders, in my opinion. If he slips out of the top 8, you have to think about a package to jump ahead of Buffalo. That's about as far as I'd go.

Maybe I'm way off here, but I just have a hard time seeing Chicago or Buffalo picking a QB at 3 or 6 given how much money they just committed to Glennon and Taylor. Those two teams could pick QBs in the 2nd round I guess, but they're paying those two guys to be "the guy" so it doesn't make a lot of sense to immediately create a QB battle by drafting another guy early.

Feels like 49ers and Jets are the two teams to watch at QB before 12.

There's a lot of teams out there who want a developmental quarterback. I also wouldn't bet against another team below the Browns trading up. The only buffer that gives the Browns a shot at Trubisky is the quality of safe defensive talent who will make an immediate impact. Those teams will have a long discussion, just like the Browns front office, about an immediate impact on defense or a guy who might start the last four games of the season and someday be an average starter.

I personally think there's too much talent to be had at 12 one way or another to pick a QB.

Do everything you can to get Jimmy without trading the 12 and let's turbo boost on the rebuild.

If no one is going to give up picks for Osweiler then I don't see the harm in allowing Hue to do what he is purportedly good at doing.

If anyone can salvage the Brock Lobster it is him.

With the fact they did not mention Osweiler in their press conference about the trade, that means to me that Osweiler will not be in Cleveland next season. Now I cannot tell you who wants to take him on, but nonetheless the browns helped themselves likely in the long run from this trade

So essentially we have Kessler and Hogan as our only QBs since we haven't even sign a journeyman backup to the roster or a young guy. Now since their really isn't any guys in free agency left, my money is we are making a trade here soon for McCarron/Grappolo before the draft and drafting a QB. At least that is the way I am looking at what they will be doing, but that being said, no one knows exactly the move they will make since they haven't been conventional nor predictable.

Do we take a chance on bringing in a Geno Smith like we did with RG3, a two year contract with the second year that is not guaranteed?

Geno Smith?

NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

I don't see the harm in keeping Osweiler around to compete. He doesn't seem like a bad locker room guy and I can't remember a story about him being a distraction in any way.

The only explanation I can come up with is the Browns FO & Coaches don't want to sacrifice reps that Kessler and/or the rookie QB would get in camp & practice to use them on Brock-lobster.
