Seems like things just snowballed in a bad way for Britt. He was, from the moment he signed here, going to be compared to Terrelle Pryor. Immediately that was likely a losing proposition as it wasn't Actual Terrelle Pryor he was going to be compared to, but the Platonic Ideal of Terrelle Pryor, the Former Buckeye QB Turned WR Savior of the Browns. Cleveland fans and media never take kindly to big or even medium-money free agent signees who don't immediately produce, and after a couple drops in preseason, Britt found himself in the crosshairs. It's unclear but I'm guessing he was also somewhat less than easy to deal with from a media standpoint, which motivated writers and talkers to paint him in a less-than-flattering light. When drops continued in real games, and in some cases turned into interceptions for our newly anointed quarterback of the future, the hate focused like a laser on the guy, and he doesn't have the personality to overcome it. I'm cashing my checks, why bother busting my ass for this sorry team?I'd imagine that Hue being a shitty coach hasn't helped things, but I agree this is largely (if not entirely) on Britt. I mean, he played for a shitty coach last year and made things happen. I think he got paid and checked out.
This is the narrative in my head but I think it makes sense. If there's any truth at all to it or if it's even worse (that he's actively been a negative influence on the younger players), then before I bring Josh Gordon back to that room I'm making sure Kenny Britt cleans out his locker and turns in that extraordinarily complicated playbook Hue Jackson has.
