Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'd imagine that Hue being a shitty coach hasn't helped things, but I agree this is largely (if not entirely) on Britt. I mean, he played for a shitty coach last year and made things happen. I think he got paid and checked out.
Seems like things just snowballed in a bad way for Britt. He was, from the moment he signed here, going to be compared to Terrelle Pryor. Immediately that was likely a losing proposition as it wasn't Actual Terrelle Pryor he was going to be compared to, but the Platonic Ideal of Terrelle Pryor, the Former Buckeye QB Turned WR Savior of the Browns. Cleveland fans and media never take kindly to big or even medium-money free agent signees who don't immediately produce, and after a couple drops in preseason, Britt found himself in the crosshairs. It's unclear but I'm guessing he was also somewhat less than easy to deal with from a media standpoint, which motivated writers and talkers to paint him in a less-than-flattering light. When drops continued in real games, and in some cases turned into interceptions for our newly anointed quarterback of the future, the hate focused like a laser on the guy, and he doesn't have the personality to overcome it. I'm cashing my checks, why bother busting my ass for this sorry team?

This is the narrative in my head but I think it makes sense. If there's any truth at all to it or if it's even worse (that he's actively been a negative influence on the younger players), then before I bring Josh Gordon back to that room I'm making sure Kenny Britt cleans out his locker and turns in that extraordinarily complicated playbook Hue Jackson has.

I dont agree, i think he has been a net negative, Hearing bad attitude too, why else was he held out a game.

Not sure if he is guranteed money, but Britt was a huge disappointment. No one to blame but Britt on that, he had good numbers last year. Got paid and started sucking balls. (and he wasnt good on the football field either.)

I don’t disagree with ya at all, but it will be hard to cut talent when the talent isn’t there to begin with. On other teams he would have already been dealt with

Kaepernick has accomplished more than any QB on this roster.

But at the same time? I find the people wanting to cheerlead for him really obnoxious and annoying. Not so much here, as I get where we're generally coming from. But the people acting like the NFL not having on a roster would be akin to the NBA not having LeBron on a roster...that annoys the hell out of me.

Frankly while I think he's probably a good man...his girlfriend? Yeah...he needs to get away from her. She actually cost him that gig with the Ratbirds.

I'm open to it, but I do wonder how open he would be to signing with us.

Frankly? I'm still stunned he hasn't gone up to Canada to win a Grey Cup up there. That's a great accomplishment for a Pro Football player and I'd much prefer doing that than being an NFL back up in the short term.

e: It wasn't "Too good" for Doug Flutie, Warren Moon, and Jeff Garcia, why no, you know?

I don't think it's really about him being "too good" for it. I think it's more that he's making a statement right now simply by not being signed. We've seen how awful the QB situation is on like eight different teams, and yet that guy who hadn't played a snap of football since like grade school just got signed as a back-up on the Titans (I think it was the Titans) over Kaepernick.

Kaepernick would be an immediate upgrade for at least six teams, right? At least. The fact that he continues to not be signed is a pretty clear signal that there is indeed a blackballing in place, and I think that's why he continues to wait.

I'm totally in favor of what Kaepernick stood for, but from the beginning I felt he was the wrong conduit. He has done so much damage to the African American Community and it has been underreported. At the end of the day, I can tell you as a dude who lives in San Francisco and wants to follow BLM, he was the wrong spokesperson. He is terrible at football, he is terrible as a one-on-one communicator, and somebody else SHOULD have been the masthead for such a terrific ideal.

Keep him away from the Browns.

Well would he take the Browns call would be the question?

because at this point...what he'd be asked to do would be to ensure we would not finish the season 0-16. This isn't for some emergency Don Strock "playoff" run...this is pretty much a worse case scenario for any vet.

Eh...I think he'd take a call from any team willing to give him an actual role.

At this point, though, we're probably better off just seeing what we have in Kizer. He likely won't turn it around, especially with Hue's "coaching," but I'd prefer to just go ahead and give him the chance to before we head into the 2018 draft. If Kizer continues to be absolutely awful, we're more than likely picking first and we can potentially draft a new QB. If he turns it around and starts playing well (not likely, but hey, a man can dream), maybe QB doesn't seem like such a pressing concern.

I can't press the "Winner" icon enough.

I also don't disagree with his overall message the issue he brings up. But I do find him to be wrong messenger and the guy to rally around.

People like to compare him to Ali or Jim Brown...but those two guys were INCREDIBLE figures for their era. Great athletes who were also tremendous entertainers and very well spoken. It would be akin to having LeBron James and....I don't even know who else...come out making their opinions known loudly every week.

e: To LeBron's credit? He DOES try to do that. But the media seems more interested in making up bullshit stories about him or discussing the aforementioned Kaepernick...

From what I've read online, the pay in Canada is extremely low. I'm sure it always has been, but in the days of Moon and Flutie I think the discrepancy wasn't that great. His thing is now being a representative for his particular set of beliefs, more so than playing football. Should he take under $100k to bust his ass in Canada for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats*? He would if he really really wanted to to play football.

Anyway, huge swathes of the country are pissed off about these protests. Most owners who agreed to sign him would basically be lighting money on fire, for an extremely low end starter or a backup.

*so glad they added the "-Cats". I would not have known what type of animal they were if they had just gone with "Tigers".

This post is wrong on a lot of levels man. And it sounds like you are speaking from the perspective of someone from a distance. As someone who has met Kap and Ness who you criticized, I can tell you that your claims about his message and his status are of base.

Its like you didnt even watch what was happening, the issues was that Kaepernick was not standing.

I don't give a rat's behind about Kaep's views on anything. If I thought he could be the guy to solve the QB problem I'd want him here yesterday. I just don't think he's good enough to be that guy.

One thing on a serious note I want to mention about Kaep, this is as good of a place as any. There really is 3 sides to the Kaep issue.

1. The players side, the injustice of how the cops treat african americans, i agree this is but issue 3 is what i really agree with, more on this later.

2. There is the anti black rights people, rally a racist movement, much larger than i thought in this country, very sad, these are the loudest opposing Kaep for sure. Claim its because they are pro vets, but many are just anti black. More than i would have hoped.

3. Then there is the corporate view. This is the one i most agree with. Lost in all the freedom of expression bullshit is that Kaep was protesting while at work, there is no freedom of expression. His actions and the actions of others have helped cause a 14% reduction in revenue. This is huge. If i did a moral objection at my job and cost my company 14% revenue, I would be fire, no questions asked, and i actually work for a very liberal mortgage lender, or CEO is very anti Trump.

My whole point is we have this fucking wrong. Its not a freedom of speech issue, its a work issue, and its really annoying to me that 95% of America doesnt have an issue with employees protesting on the Boss's time.

I think the issue is less that no one wants to hire him and more that it seems increasingly apparent that the owners got together and decided to blackball him from the league.
