Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Latest mock from Albert Breer of MMQB.

1. BROWNS: JOSH ALLEN, QB, WYOMING
Crumbs of evidence are everywhere on this. Another one: Owner Jimmy Haslam has been asking around about Allen.

2. N.Y. GIANTS: SAQUON BARKLEY, RB, PENN STATE
Toughest team to peg. Darnold being available throws a wrench in things. But new GM Dave Gettleman said he wants a Hall of Famer …

3. N.Y. JETS (VIA COLTS): SAM DARNOLD, QB, USC
Question of Josh Rosen vs. Baker Mayfield is solved in the building with the safest QB’s presence on the board.

4. BROWNS: BRADLEY CHUBB, DE, N.C. STATE
Browns get more than a potentially great rusher—they also get someone who could make Myles Garrett better.

5. BRONCOS: BAKER MAYFIELD, QB, OKLAHOMA
Denzel Ward, Quenton Nelson, trade down … Word is Elway confidantes Gary Kubiak and Matt Russell love Mayfield.

Jimmy Haslam out there (not) secretly asking about Josh Allen two weeks before the draft.

That seems pretty overt.

Right, and who could he possibly be calling? What other information does he need? His team has met with him multiple times, they’ve seen him in sessions at least 3 times, had interviews, watched his games live, and have hours of tape.

What will Jimmy be able to uncover in a phone call a week and a half out from the draft? Smells like BS and another story being put out to help someone’s motives. The real mystery is trying to figure out who’s motives those are.

Thats my whole thing, too.

It doesn't make sense. Is Haslam being deployed to call up random GMs and Owners and ask, "so, whats your thoughts on this Allen guy, eh? What a talent, huh?"

Could be that Haslam was told the pick by Dorsey so he's asking his owner buddies around the league what they/their organization think about it. He's been known to solicit feedback from owners like Kraft in the past. That's my guess.

If it's BS and Jimmy isn't talking to anyone, the angle I could buy is the "sniff out the leaker" theory where they're floating fake information out there to try to tighten up the ship.

But... if it is true... what's the angle that leads to the pick not being Allen? Are people so in denial about the possibility that we might take Allen that they think Jimmy Haslam is running misdirection plays for Dorsey? With a guy who isn't a consensus trade up target?

Well, Haslam does have a horrible reputation for not trusting his hired FO and seeking opinions from football minds around the league.

One he regularly reached out to was Ron Wolf. That's partly why Dorsey is now our GM--at Wolf's recommendation. I had hoped he'd stop and trust this top-notch personnel department that they paid big money to assemble.

That's what makes me think that they are using Jimmy to put out the feelers. He already has a reputation for overstepping and reaching out everywhere--they may just be thinking it's Jimbo being Jimbo and not realize he's looking for information on behalf of his front office this time.

They want everyone to know that we are considering Allen at #1. If he was considered at #1, that makes him a bargain at #4 for a trade-up partner, right? (Despite that, too, being a horrible idea)

You're motherfu*kin' right we are.

You’re viewing this as pretty black and white with no ulterior motives considered

So Allen is what is getting reported. Are you confident in definitively saying that Haslam has ONLY asked about Allen QB wise?

Maybe the people he talked to had incentives to only mention Allen? Why? I don’t know. But I think Jimmy Haslam reaches out about one and ONLY ONE prospect is pretty far fetched. Why not just get the scoop on the other options while on the line?

Smokescreens and 4D chess!

Honestly? Because this seems like something incredibly dumb that's right up Haslam's alley.

Despite what anyone says, I feel like Dorsey has to know who his guy is going to be at this point. And it wouldn't surprise me if, even if he hasn't shared it with anyone else in the organization, he's shared it with his boss (who you would think could keep a secret).

And it would be just like Jimmy to go around the league, insecurely asking everyone else's opinion on the pick even though he hired Dorsey specifically to make it.

Well I certainly won’t argue with Haslam being monumentally stupid, but even though you like Allen, if you believe what you laid out then this team is pretty much doomed regardless with someone as dumb as that calling the shots
