Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Well I certainly won’t argue with Haslam being monumentally stupid, but even though you like Allen, if you believe what you laid out then this team is pretty much doomed regardless with someone as dumb as that calling the shots

I think we have a chance so long as Haslam gets out of the way and lets Dorsey do his thing. If Jimmy meddles again and doesn't let the guys who are supposed to have a clue do their thing, we're screwed.

Can't wait until we move into Stage 2 of the Kubler-Ross model... there's gonna be fireworks
Absolutely won't happen until there's a press conference. I'll continue to hold out hope that it's a draft-and-trade until the final gun.

Josh Allen ain’t happening, folks.
Is this based on something you have heard from someone in the know, or is this just your feeling? (Hoping it is the former.)

1. CLEVELAND BROWNS
Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma

It's easy to make an argument for Mayfield at No. 1. The problem is that damn Big 12 makes it so freaking difficult to evaluate QB's.

There is no such thing as anyone being in the know. Every single leak comes from someone who is guessing, and that guess only becomes less reliable as it gets repeated.

Both, really. But I don't have any sort of high level sources with the Browns.

We all know how I feel about Mayfield...

I just don’t see the Browns going that route though.

I agree.

The thing is, there really is a lot to like on Mayfield.

Good Arm? Check.
Elite Accuracy? Check.
Anticipation? Check.
Quick Release? Check.
Mobility? Check.
Wins from the pocket? Check.
Leadership? Check.
Football Intelligence? Check.

The above things translate into becoming a good football player.

Really, he has two weaknesses, only one of which he can control.

Ideal Height? Nope.
Comes from a system with pro concepts? Nope.

So yes, he has question marks. He's also older than the other QB's. However, he has a lot to like. He's 6'05. Is that a deal breaker over an inch and a half? Would he really be a different prospect if he happened to be 6'2? I'm not sure that it makes that much of a difference in his case, especially given his ability to throw on the run or from a moving pocket.

Really, the only thing that worries me is the Big 12 and his college scheme. He was a master out of it, but it was entirely based on quick reads and spacing. He has absolutely no idea on how to set protections yet. However, many say that he's as impressive as it gets in terms of learning things quickly. So even this, with a little time, might not be an issue.

I'm a Darnold guy. I also really really like Rosen. I'm just trying to make a Mayfield case to give myself another anti-Allen option.

The way I figure it, Dorsey is a traditionalist, and so probably pre-disposed against a Big 12 QB. So if he goes with Mayfield anyway, it must be because he really saw something that stood out in terms of him not just being a system guy.

The only other negative out there is that video of him getting arrested. I'm not sure there's a great history of QB's who have gotten in resisting arrest situations panning out. It's certainly a concern in terms of judgment/maturity. Not sure I'd care too much if it was a defensive lineman or something, but you'd hope your QB would be more mature for his age, not less.

The thing about Baker no one mentions is his age. He is 23, which is 3 years older than Darnald and 2 years older than Rosen. That makes a difference when talking about a finished product.

I do think we make to much of his size. 6'1 ish and 215lbs isnt tiny, he is a bit short, but if adds 15 lbs, he has decent weight for his size to take a hit. His freshman year at Tech he had 12 tds and 9 ints on 64% completion, its not to knock Baker, it is to show that a player will throw less Int's as he ages, the biggest knock on Sam and Rosen the Baker crowd mentions.

All that said, I do think he can be a good starter in the NFL, i dont get the same doom and gloom about him as I do Allen. But I do have the exact same concerns about baker as i do Mason Rudolph. If you love Baker, you should also like Mason, and i just think we have been burned too many times with inflated Big 12 numbers. Yes i am looking at you Weedon and Colt.

Baker without a Lincoln Riley offense, having to make decisions and thinking the whole improv thing will work at the next level is a scary proposition.

Josh Rosen is being punished for being clearly better than any of the other QB prospects in this draft. How the fuck do you max out as a passer entering the freaking draft? That doesn't make any sense at all to claim that one guy is maxed out but the guys who are worse will somehow be better. The NFL is so fucking dumb.
