I agree.
The thing is, there really is a lot to like on Mayfield.
Good Arm? Check.
Elite Accuracy? Check.
Anticipation? Check.
Quick Release? Check.
Mobility? Check.
Wins from the pocket? Check.
Leadership? Check.
Football Intelligence? Check.
The above things translate into becoming a good football player.
Really, he has two weaknesses, only one of which he can control.
Ideal Height? Nope.
Comes from a Pro System? Nope.
So yes, he has questions marks. He's also older than the other QB's. However, he has a lot to like. He's 6'05. Is that a deal breaker over an inch and a half? Would he really be a different prospect if he happened to be 6'2? I'm not sure that it makes that much of a difference in his case, especially given his ability to throw on the run or from a moving pocket.
Really, the only thing that worries me is the Big 12 and his college scheme. He was a master out of it, but it was entirely based on quick reads and spacing. He has absolutely no idea on how to set protections yet. However, many say that he's as impressive as it gets in terms of learning things quickly. So even this, with a little time, might not be an issue.
I'm a Darnold guy. I also really really like Rosen. I'm just trying to make a Mayfield case to give myself another anti-Allen option.
