Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Well, three years under Jim Mora...

How much more can one possibly improve?

The thing about Baker no one mentions is his age. He is 23, which is 3 years older than Darnald and 2 years older than Rosen. That makes a difference when talking about a finished product.

I do think we make to much of his size. 6'1 ish and 215lbs isnt tiny, he is a bit short, but if adds 15 lbs, he has decent weight for his size to take a hit. His freshman year at Tech he had 12 tds and 9 ints on 64% completion, its not to knock Baker, it is to show that a player will throw less Int's as he ages, the biggest knock on Sam and Rosen the Baker crowd mentions.

All that said, I do think he can be a good starter in the NFL, i dont get the same doom and gloom about him as I do Allen. But I do have the exact same concerns about baker as i do Mason Rudolph. If you love Baker, you should also like Mason, and i just think we have been burned too many times with inflated Big 12 numbers. Yes i am looking at you Weedon and Colt.

you keep bringing this up (mayfields age), and Im still curious about this argument. One of the traditional judgements of a college QB is having a minimum number of starts (27), and being of at LEAST a certain age(21). Darnold doesnt reach either of these (24 starts and 20 years old), and Rosen is just barely 21 and while he has 30 games played not sure if he has 27 starts. So Mayfield not only has plenty of starts, he is also passed the minimum age. We are seeing a huge fight of potential (allen) versus finished product (rosen/mayfield). Youve heard many many many posters say "not sure why you wouldnt draft the most refined QB". So while i guess i see your point, when drafting a QB traditionally age isnt really used expect in a "needs a minimum age" sort of way

Let's be fair: Mora is a former DC and pro HC. He had other people coaching Rosen with experience on the offensive side of the ball. First he had a very respected OC with pro and college experience who is now OC at Arizona. Then they brought in the Samoan twosome for his sophomore year. Lastly he had Fisch who is now senior offensive assistant with the Rams. He had some good coaching.

Three in three years...not exactly a positive thing for development.

Pretty good reason why it’s former Coach Mora

Development and years till peak is why I bring it up.

Baker played 4 years, but spent 5 years in a college program. He has learned allot more than Rosen or Darnold who have only spent 3 each.

Since we have Tyrod, taking a player who might have less time in college, but might develop well beyond were Baker is now. (no not Allen who needs to sit 20)

Its a factor to consider for sure.

Right, and who could he possibly be calling? What other information does he need? His team has met with him multiple times, they’ve seen him in sessions at least 3 times, had interviews, watched his games live, and have hours of tape.

What will Jimmy be able to uncover in a phone call a week and a half out from the draft? Smells like BS and another story being put out to help someone’s motives. The real mystery is trying to figure out who’s motives those are.

Probably these guys.

Josh Rosen is being punished for being clearly better than any of the other QB prospects in this draft. How the fuck do you max out as a passer entering the freaking draft? That doesn't make any sense at all to claim that one guy is maxed out but the guys who are worse will somehow be better. The NFL is so fucking dumb.

One thing I have learned having served in three different professions is that a lot of "professionals" are actually terrible at their jobs.

...And, while I was a Rosen guy most of the college season, I'm wondering how much of that OC trend is on him and his own growth mindset. The knock on Rosen is that he's resistant to new coaching ideas... and these guys have been successful in their next stops.

Has that been an “issue?”

From my understanding, he just asks alot of questions and wants to know why.

Per Mora’s “evaluation.”

You know what time of year it is... there's arguments being made for or against every prospect. People pick and choose which they want to ignore and which they want to focus on. I am referring to the assessment from Dilfer's camp, and the "unnamed scouts" floating in Twitterdom since around November. Again, I've said all along that you put film on the overhead, I see a great pro prospect. I don't really know about personality but I see professionals who have a job to dig around... I'm not going to pretend to know Josh Rosen the man. I am just watching the back and forth, and I have more faith than usual on the front office this time around.

I think...hypothetically under a west coast offense (Bill Walsh/Dan Reeve) that Mayfield, Jackson could be successful.

But I would value Darnold, Rosen far more over them in terms of prospects. You don't have to worry as much about fitting an offense around them.

Allen just seems like a raw prospect who needs to marinate on the bench behind an established starter. He's not a guy I would draft and expect to be a starting QB in the NFL within a year.

Get Darnold. Just. Period.

That Albright tweet read “he’s really good already so he probably won’t get much better.”

Sorry, you’re not maxed out as a passer at 21. Only if you’re not already really good: this is when you have potential. Already really good? Maxed out.

K

Jesus you hear some retarded shit in this league.

I wouldn’t say Rosen is “maxed out” because he’ll obviously improve on certain things that only come with NFL experience like reading coverages and things like that.

But the QBs that make typically make the most dramatic gains after they reach the pros usually do so as a result of mechanical improvements. That’s what happened with Carson Wentz.

Since Rosen has less to work on mechanically than the other QBs, there seems to be a perception, fair or unfair, that he isn’t going get all that much better than he is right now as a passer. The sense for some folks when they watch him is “what you see is what you get” which isn’t the feeling for some of the other guys.
