Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'd have taken Foles.

Happy with Tyrod though. Gave up less too. Either way, it was a stopgap, so rather give up a 3rd for Tyrod than a 2nd for Foles (and they wanted a 1st anyways, so)

I'd have been happy with him as well, and am very glad the front office explored that, and made a legitimate offer.

The 35th overall pick for a QB when you're about to draft another QB at No. 1 overall is the definition of mismanaging your assets.

It's bad enough they did it with the 65th pick.

Eh, They really needed to get a solid Veteran whether we liked it or not and it wasn't going to happen through free agency period, so they did what they needed to do at the end of the day. Long term it was a bad trade on paper, but right now I really do feel it was the right move.

Totally agree. They needed a veteran in the worst way. Going into last season without one was one of the most asinine management moves I've seen from a sports team in this town, and that is saying a lot.

And when you're up to your nutsack in draft picks, spending one on a solid QB isn't really bad when you're a) desperate and b) don't really need another 50 rookies on this team.

To you. Dorsey seems to think that having a veteran in place for the developmental part of a prospect's career is smart business. He's succeeded that way. You think the #1 pick must start day 1 to be "worth it".

Not at all.

I just hate the idea of giving up the 35th overall pick, a pick that SHOULD net you an immediate and long-term starter, for a player who will be gone after 1 season.

Ah. Agree to disagree.

I think the 35th pick (or 65) for a proven starter in the league for a team that hasn't had a legit one for a long time is worth more than potentially getting a guy like Corbett or Ogbah. Potentially used because that pick could end-up as Ogbah, or it can end-up as Nate Orchard.

It might be worth more... for one season. But that's it.

Tyrod Taylor is a nice player. He's going to help this team win football games *this year* and that's great. But he's not going to be here in 9 months, if not sooner.

I can't really get too hyped up about anything Taylor does this year because they're not keeping him over Mayfield no matter how good he plays. And Taylor isn't going to willingly stick around and be a backup when he's capable of starting for several teams. And that was for the 65th overall pick!

Would you rather have 8-16 games of Nick Foles or 4-8 seasons of Nick Chubb?

The hope is Tyrod Taylor helps the development of Baker Mayfield, our #1 overall pick, so his presence is felt far more than just this season.

I think the hope is that Taylor's presence means Hue won't be ruining Baker Mayfield like he ruined Kizer. Then they can fire Hue next spring and hire someone who knows how to coach a young QB.

4-8 seasons of Chubb, but that's far from a given now and it was far from a given when they made the decision. In my quick amateur research, it's the skill position guys who have a higher variance at that point in the draft (Geno Smith, Devin Smith, Alvin Kamara). Lots of room for boom or bust there. Pick 35 or 65 presents a larger gamble in my opinion than I think you're making it out to be.

Hopefully he's fired before next spring but we'll see

We went into last season with three quarterbacks that had a combined 2 years of experience and 0 wins.

Dropping a 2nd or 3rd on a veteran to add stability to the most important position in football seems like a no-brainer given the circumstances

Now we have Stanton (drafted in 07) and Taylor (Drafted in 11) to run the show until Baker is ready to start.

I really do not get these Media outlets who say Baker will start by week 8. I doubt he gets onto the field this season at all unless it's garbage time/last game of the season.
