Still funny how we’re about 4 weeks out from the first couple teams pitchers and catchers reporting. All these guys still unsigned. That is not a good look.
Not for the players, but for the Indians this is a great thing, that means the market won't be as high so their money could stretch a little farther now.
That being said, last year was the same way and the players union investigated why, but nothing was filed against the owners that went very far. My guess is the owners are starting to get more frugal overall/the prices of players is not really going to increase a whole ton anymore. Outside of honestly a Harper and Machado, we really won't see any 100 Mil or higher contracts this off season. So the market isn't really going the players way right now (That being said though honestly, if you can control yourself, you can easily live off of a million dollars in a lifetime so to me they get plenty as it is).
This market is good for the smaller markets since the players prices will have to come down. I think we all agree we want either a Pollock (good player, but his price demand is to high for his injury issues) or Marwin Gonzalez, who is a perfect fit for Francona and this roster cause he can play most positions.
We will be bringing in as many veterans on minor league contracts with spring training invites, incentives and opt out clauses that we can this off season. With major holes and likely not going to trade Kluber or Bauer now (pitchers and catchers reporting is the deadline), we are going to need a reclamation project and the young guys, Bauers, Allen, Luplow, etc, to have breakout/people return to glory years.
