Plus, I believe if you look into the "potential assist" numbers, it bores out that Collin is missing a lot of assist opportunities because of his teammates inability to convent. He definitely needs to improve as a floor general and learn the game a lot, but to say he hasn't shown any flashes is just incorrect. You have to look at everything in totality.

He will never be a 8+APG guy, but there's zero reason he can't find his way into that 4-6 range where all-NBA scoring-first guards like Kemba, Kyrie, etc have been at. Just because Kyrie was a better passer as a rookie doesn't mean that Sexton won't get to the same number eventually. Kyrie had/has a lot more potential as a general than he has ever actually shown. I remember him drawing legit CP3 comparisons as a rookie and/or college kid because of his sophistication and knowledge of the game. But he always wanted to be Kobe more than anything and let his potential as a passer really slip over the years into an afterthought. I don't think Coillin's personality will allow for that. Two totally different minds.

Very true with the potential assists. He was getting the ball to TT all night. He had 2 that Tristan Bobbled. I am less and less worried because as far as I can tell, he needs the defense to respect him as a scorer to open up his passing game. That isn't unusual. In that way, I think he and Kyrie are alike. They aren't pass first pg's, they pass based on their own gravity as pulling the defense in to get others open. They don't create from nothing the way Rubio, or Chris Paul do. As people respect his drive and shot more, it will open up his passing and we have already seen that.

The biggest thing I have not seen anyone mention is that this kid is not a ball hog. He is definitely a score first pg, but he does not need the ball in his hands all the time. We do not see the constant dribble dribble dribble we saw from Kyrie. He gives the ball up so other guys can touch it, and he doesn't freeze his teammates out. He is not a floor general yet, but I am actually pretty sure he will get there because his play has not been selfish.

I'd say he takes 2-3 shots a game where he should give it up. That is not too many for a lead guard IMO.

I agree he probably tops out around 6 assists per game, but that is cool with me provided he continues to share the ball in an unselfish way. If he had tunnel vision and was just constantly destroyed by double teams because he would not give up the ball I would feel very differently. That's not his game.

Wait what did JR say about the Young Bull?
He took a shot at Collin while riding the other rookie Trae Young's nutsack on social media. Said Trae was RoY because he had a good night.

Then there was reports how the veterans didn't think Sexton was good at playing organized basketball.

I really don't get JR's attitude. Maybe he is washed and thinks he is still that guy, I dunno. I never thought he was mean, but his attitude has been terrible. He could have busted his ass, helped the youngins and played defense and gone to a contender that needed to clear space. Maybe he still will, but they have all got to be gunshy about everything but his contract.

Keep your mouth shut for 6-7 months and you could have gone to a better situation. No surprise the team started playing better the moment he was gone.

Knock on wood but so far he’s looking as one of the best players in his draft, remember that Trae Young (the guy they gave away Luka Doncic for) is shooting 37% from the field & 24% from the 3PT line.

Also the other big centers drafted ahead of him are looking like dinosaurs in today’s NBA, I have no idea what all those out of touch failing front offices were doing taking dinosaurs over the likes of Luka Doncic or other talents guards or forwards, especially in today’s NBA.

All in all I’m very happy with the pick, you never know what will happen in future but for now it looks like Colin Sexton was the best player available at #8.
Idk about the whole “bigs look like dinosaurs” thing, JJJ has been great, Wendell carter is pretty solid. Really only Ayton looks out of place, and even then he’s putting up pretty solid numbers. But I agree that Sexton looks like the best guard from this draft currently, when at the start of the season Trae and SGA looked better.

young bull has been going better and better and to think hes only 19 years old is very promising. the league is drooling over doncic and Sexton has been as impressive or even better since he took the starting role. keep it going young bull!!!!

Well Doncic has the whole leader/floor general thing down already. He has one of those incredibly polished mature games you hardly see from a rookie. He's a basketball prodigy whereas Young Bull is a guy who worked on his game relentlessly to be put in the conversation, and is a later bloomer compared to Doncic.

He tries to lead, but does not always get respect. At one point Saturday he was pointing at Burk to move to the other side and Burks just ignored him..

JR is who he has always been. When things are going well, he's a great sixth man and role-player who buys in and plays hard. The second things stop going well, though, he becomes an asshole who disrupts everything and acts like a child. That's the main reason we got him free (technically they paid us to take him) from New York, remember?

Agree 100%. I love Sexton, but he's not on Doncic's level...yet.

Doncic is also just fun as hell to watch. So is Sexton, but Doncic is still clearly ROY in my book.

That said, I hope the Young Bull gives him a run for his money down the stretch.

I think even if Young Bull was better than him at the end of the year it wouldn't matter. Mavs might be going to the playoffs. It's a more interesting storyline etc. IF he did however, I would not care about rookie of the year, I would be losing it that we got an all time rookie.

Yep, and...I just don't give a shit about media awards anymore. They're ruining all of them by just doing what ESPN tells them all to do.

Curry should have never been a unanimous MVP. Harden has never been an MVP. And not giving LBJ the MVP last year was a fucking travesty.

So, they can keep their bullshit awards. As long as Young Bull develops and becomes a solid player for our franchise, I don't give a fuck about worthless media recognition.

Ive noticed this too. TT would ignore him alot in the beginning, I think their relationship changed when JR left the team. TT seems willing to play with Sexton now.

Nance was the one who was most willing to do things for Sexton in the beginning but I think that has faded recently. Nance and Clarkson are playing alot of buddy ball at the moment.

Sexton’s play has changed since the time when the vets were calling him out. He’s fitting into the offense instead of doing whatever.

Hope his second 1/2 goes better than his first half tonight. 0-8 is a pretty harsh correction.
