He's neither a star nor a bust at this point.

As 8th overall picks go he's been ok.

Hopefully he'll improve next season.

Since Kyrie played his rookie season in a shorten season, him and Sexton actually did it in similar points of their rookie seasons. Kyrie set the record in a 65 game season and last night's game was the 66th game of the season for the Cavs.
Kyrie started from day one as well. Sexton began starting what, 12th game?

He has to be taking more 3s now than Kyrie was because he barely shot any at the beginning of the year.

I'm comfortable saying guys like Stauskas or Chris's who have basically made no strides in their NBA careers are capped out. However, even the staunchest Collin critic has to admit he looks like a different player than he did when he started the year. Capping a guy like that seems counter to evidence.

This is 3 months ago. Even then he had some sick moves.

I don't know about "looks like a different player". He improved a bit since the beginning of February. His advanced start are still really, really bad. His ortg and drtg have been abysmal. Even over the last few months. And then there's this...

He was terrible for months. I don't see how those stats at the beginning of the year are relevant anymore.

Like he isn't going to budge from that corner due to how bad his stats were early in the season.

Exactly. Using advanced stats to evaluate a rookie in one of the shittiest teams in the league is counter productive. The eye test tells me he is playing at a far greater level than those advanced stats suggest.

Eye test and advanced stats don't seem to sync up for Sexton. I'm developing a strong dislike for advanced stats the more I see of them. I'll admit I don't really understand them much probably because I don't care to put even a slight effort towards understanding them. For me the eye test >>>>>> advanced stats.

It just depends on what you are asking. Both Cedi and Collin were rated as 2 of the worst player in the league earlier in the season. So was Trae Young. Does anyone think Atlanta is supposed to move on from him? Should we trade Cedi while his value is high?

It's silly. Collins 2pt% sucks because he was chucking long 2s for 3 months and could only rarely finish at the rim. He basically doesn't even shoot that long 2 anymore and he is finishing better. People look at his 2pt% and say, "needs to work on that". Well if you watched the games, you know that he has.

If people want to pull stats from the past month or something more recent or show stats over time cool. Taking the whole years stats doesn't tell you anything because of how much he has changed his style of play, shot selection, and has been getting more assist.

I don't think advanced stats help you evaluate Collin Sexton as a prospect at this point in the season. You have to really consider where he is as a player, the way he started his rookie campaign and how he has progressed throughout this season. I hope everyone can at least acknowledge that this is a raw young player that needs to develop multiple aspects of his game. He needs to mature as a person both emotionally and physically, this is not a finished product. There are certain red flags that I think can give you a good idea if a player is going to be a bust. A guy like Anthony Bennett gave off a lot of those signs, Marquese Chriss gives off those signs. Collin, to me, looks like he has a good work ethic and has shown that he has the ability to grow his game over time. He also plays with enthusiasm and passion, those are good signs to me. I think he's got a very good chance to be successful in this league.

Also, notice that his to 2pt% is getting better now that love is back.

Just think most rookie PGs could put up 15-3-3 with a 25% usage rate. Don’t see anything from this kid. I mean hell look how much better clarkson looks this year with the usage he’s had all season. This season is almost over and I haven’t seen anything thus far to think this guy is your PG going forward. I truly hope Collin isn’t in the back of their minds in the draft.

I’m not saying he’s a bust, just saying he’s not a game changing talent. I think he could be a solid 1st guard off the bench

You literally wanted 18.4 pts 5.4 assist and 3.7 Reb? Did you think this was a 1 for 1 replacement for Kyrie, who happenrd to have a historic rookie year? He was one of the most polished rookies I ever saw.

Can the charts showing these stats show 1 for each month of the season (month to month) not beginning of the season to current month so we could potentially see if there is any growth? When you sucked hard to start the first half of the season, it's almost impossible to dig yourself out of a hole.

If you're looking for some statistical support to the strides he's made, consider this:

Collin Sexton
Games 1-53: 0.483 TS%, 15.4 AST%, 95 Off Rtg, 7.3 Average Game Score
Games 54-66: 0.528 TS%, 16.9 AST%, 104 Off Rtg, 11.1 Average Game Score
And if you really want to feel better, take a look at the sort of last-30-games improvement Fox made last year:
Rookie De'Aaron Fox
Games 1-41: 0.469 TS%, 25.2 AST%, 92 Off Rtg, 6.5 Average Game Score
Games 42-73: 0.488 TS%, 24.3 AST%, 96 Off Rtg, 8.6 Average Game Score
Admittedly, continuing along Fox's improvement trajectory would be an incredible outcome for Sexton (and not one I am holding my breath for). But this sort of improvement does make clear the value of patience when watching him.

All but a handful of one and done rookies stink. They really test your patience. If they’re a little better on offense than you expected, they’re worse on defense. All the value on this kid was that he was raw and would work hard, and that was a better gamble than the other rookies left on the board who would stink and not work as hard. I have no idea if he’ll end up any good. I never figured I’d know this year. His second and third seasons will be a barometer and why I’ve tried to avoid making generalizations about him this season. He’d look like shit, I’d bk reference half the all stars rookie seasons, and then keep this dude sucks posts to myself and wait him out. He couldn’t have walked into a worse situation to be efficient.
