As I said in the Cedi thread, I’m watching condensed game and highlights from last night so maybe I’m missing the big picture.

Sexton gets major tunnel vision sometimes. It worked out last night, but he passed up a couple open 3 attempts that weren’t exactly difficult reads. Love was standing in the corner just waiting as Sexton attacked the rim with 3 guys surrounding the rim LOL

This definitely goes to Dom’s Clarkson issue.
We have to give him the benefit of the doubt though- he’s young, raw and likely has almost no film experience.
Learning how to set up a defense to get Kevin the pass will take time.
Right now, he doesn’t even know Kevin was in the corner.
Give it time.

The Clarkson comparison is scary. I don’t know how many assist opportunities were present though.

I’d have him in the starting lineup sooner than later, perhaps begin defining times when he should be super aggressive.

There were quite a few. It's just that playmaking doesn't come naturally for him, so he goes through the motions like a robot(and tries to do what the coaches tell him), and while doing so he misses opportunuties to create/score and neglects parts of his strengths(athleticism, burst, scoring mentality). I'll give you an example, we had this point guard on the team that his sole purpose was to run sets and plays for the other players. He wasn't good and the coach just didn't allow him to do anything else or otherwise he would be benched.

You have this untamed beast trying to run sets with a pretty bad unit and one ridiculous ball hog. It's not going to very well. It's like he doesn't hit that turbo button when he plays like that. He needs to become more instintive and start playing with a unit that moves the ball.

He had 7 potential assists last night, 3rd on the team after Cedi's 12 and Love's 10. I don't think the bench lineup helps his development much, specifically Clarkson being a black hole and Dekker being unwilling or unable to shoot.

I feel like Lue is actively sabotaging his career.

Playing him in a lineup w Clarkson and Dekker. What is he going to learn? What habits? Who is he passing to?

If he isn’t going to start, he should be the first sub. Hill out, sexton in w the starters.

Hood is garbage too. Sexton was playing w hood, clarkson, Dekker and zizic. I ok w ante but the other guys....

Where is nwaba? Dekker over nwaba is insane.

It's tough playing with this unit. I can't even count the number of times Ante was open on the roll and just didn't get any pass. Only 2 shot attempts for Ante is...bad.. Someone has to start feeding the ball either in the PnR or in the post(Lue doesn't post him up so the former lol...TT had like 5 post ups, at least). Gotta feed a player that shoots 80% from the field at some point, no? if you don't, why does he even play? it's definitely not for his athleticism and elite defense

We have a team that really can't run the PnR. The best PnR ball handler is Cedi, so both Sexton and Ante need to play with him a bit more. That way we can establish good habits and become a better team...if that's what we want lol.

The way this team is constructed, him playing with Clarkson isn’t that bad. Clarkson is basically playing SG and will take the majority of the shots, taking some pressure off Sexton until he gets his footing.
Once he does, he’s going to be in the starting lineup with Love and Cedi. Once it happens he’s going to have scoring and assist opportunities.
What’s pissing me off is not allowing Zizic to get touches down low. They should deliberately have Sexton get him the ball and fan out.

I don't have an issue with Sexton coming off the bench per se. I think Hill is better at this point. Unlike you, I think the Clarkson and Sexton pairing is abysmal as they don't fit offensively or defensively, at all. Not sure if Clarkson fits with anyone really.

Our starters are fine its the bench which is an issue. Sexton will improve as season goes on which will help but Dekker just plain sucks. Cut the rotation to just 4 off the bench (Nance, Sexton ,Clarkson, Zizic) and if you have to play a 5th for whatever reason give Nwaba a go!

I would like to see sexton play with hill or nwaba and not with TT. So many times TT just runs his man into help position on a drive because he doesn't need to be guarded. Play sexton with nwaba should give us decent speed to run with him and defensive help. Sexton is a pretty decent willing passer it's just the offense of the bench unit involves Clarkson shooting or dribbling and picking up the ball before he's decided what to do with it and pivoting around like a middle school player

Imo, putting Sexton in the starting unit will play to his strengths... He will be surrounded by playmakers(love and cedi) that can space the floor well.. His only job is attack mismatches in the halfcourt and receive outlets from love in transition..

Playing with clarkson made him hesistant and second guess his role because jordan is such a ballhog.. it would also benefit clarkson if he played with hill...

Sexton/cedi/hood/love/tt
Hill/clarkson/korver/dekker/zizic

He isn't really a poin guard at the moment. If you tell him to play like a true point guard you lose other value that he can bring to the table. He is an undersized scroing guard ATM.

I don't know what the balance should be for him between running an offense/attacking, but he needs to be unleashed a bit. It's dangerous because you don't want him to end up like Clarkson.
That's the thing, but you don't want him to be timid like hill either.

I just want him to play right and use his skill set to the absolute maximum while trying to improve his deficiencies.

He is still clearly figuring out what NBA defenders are going to allow. I liked the way he adjusted his layups high off the board last night after getting blocked.

His offensive game isn't polished, but he has really good scoring instincts.

I'm pretty confident he will figure it out. He is going to go at Trae Young and that will be fun.

Trae Young will be BBQ chicken tomorrow. Sexton and Cedi should attack him relentlessly.

He’s gotta chill with those foot on the line long 2s. Don’t develop bad habits.

no, that is not the logic I would employee here. It's a habit from college that will change in time, can't expect him to always be in the right spot 2 games in.
