The question is whether DMC said something like "if you think I'm the big problem, why don't you trade me?", which makes the context different and Westphal's statement misleading. Interesting in that regard is that no formal action has been taken against DMC. He wasn't suspended, and there is some speculation that this wasn't done because the union could then appeal to the league to investigate, and the accusations would not hold up under the scrutiny.
I would be surprised if this goes away quietly.
Maybe so, however; if he said it once I bet he's said it a number of times. He may have never formally told the Kings that he wants to be traded but his actions, words and demeanor probably show his true feelings on a daily basis.
