CP3 Deal (DONE to CLIPS)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
clippers are definitely the team to watch this year no doubt about it. that team is pretty much guaranteed for at least 2-3 "holy shit that was awesome" moments every game.

like people said though, depth is a huge problem for them right now. they are at least 2 good bench players away from being anything serious come post season.

Hmm is Kobe top 5 anymore? That is a pretty good question. Personally I'd have LeBron, Wade, Dwight and Durant as absolutely without question better than Kobe, and then there is a second tier of Rose, Melo, Paul, who are possibly better than Kobe depending on how Kobe's injuries play out. Then again you could say the same thing about Paul and Melo. Rose is a fairly non injury prone player, although he did hurt his ankles a few times last year, but not seriously.

For riht this second I still take Kobe for this year over the second tier, but if his injury is bad enough then who knows.
c'mon now

CP3 was healthy last year and if both players were healthy, he is easily better than Kobe. Of course that means he's obviously better than a broken Kobe.

except depth is wildly overrated in the post-season. lakers had next to no depth yet they still made the finals in three consecutive years, winning twice. why? because they were just talented, particularly up front.

That seems to be a valid point. But I think this season, with the condensed schedule, depth will have more influence than in a normal season.

That Clippers picks is top 10 protected I believe

It's like when McNabb broke his fibia and still played for 3 and half quarters (destroyed who ever they were playing that day too)

I believe you're right about the pick, but we don't need it to be a top 10 pick. If the Clippers start the year on a good pace and lose a starter half way through then I believe their pick would be in the high teens (7th seed). If we could package our Sacto pick (if by some miracle they get the 8 seed) and the Clippers pick to get another lottery pick.

It will... in the regular season. That's why teams like Denver should dominate during the regular season this year. But come post-season, depth will have little to no significance. The playoffs aren't going to be condensed, there won't be any back to backs. Most team's starters are playing around 40 minutes come playoff time.

Yes, but will the stars on teams with no bench still have enough strength left for the play-offs? Especially older guys like Kobe, Duncan, Kidd etc.?

More than usual for some teams, yes. But the Clippers really aren't one of them because they are so young. And as Obawan noted, depth still probably won't be all that important overall come playoff time. I imagine stars will be getting more games off than they usually get in the reg season as well.

Their regular season records will take a hit and they will come in as a lower seed than they would in a normal season, but this won't matter much in the post season if they are able to manage their minutes properly during the final stretch.

However, if a veteran team struggles for a stretch they could be in big trouble trying to manage minutes for veteran players and accumulating enough victories to make the playoffs. Kind of a catch-22 situation.

Injuries will be more of a factor this year, as well. A minor tweak will result in more games missed than a standard year.

I thought there was going to be b2b's in the first round or two in the playoffs?

If your team can go 9 deep then you should be fine in the post season. I think the Clippers are going to need a good backup big to get far in the playoffs, but CP3 and Griffin will do enough to get them there.

Billups, Butler, Gomes, Chris paul and mo williams, foye and reggie evans all have 5+ years experience in the nba.

Griffin, Deandre Jordan, eric bledsoe,

you got
PG Paul, Bledsoe
SG Billups, Williams and foye
Sf Butler Gomes
PF Griffin, Evans
C Jordan

Thats enough to get you in the playoff hunt. an expiring mo williams showcasing him around all this talent will allow the clippers to make a trade deadline move. They in good Shape right now.

Dwight is not better than Kobe. One of the factors, and this is a big one, Dwight is like a WR in football, he needs someone else to get him the ball in his spot. Were as Kobe can control and dictate tempo from either end of floor from 3 different positions (pg, sg and sf. his times at pg are rare but he has and will continue to play some minutes there, same with sf)

Dwight is significantly better than Kobe at this point in both players' careers. Dwight changes team's game plans on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Not to mention the fact that he dominates one of the most important and hard to fill positions in the game, while Bryant plays the position filled with probably the most talent in the league. It really doesn't mean anything that Dwight needs someone else to get him the ball- so does every other center that has ever existed. It's not any knock on Dwight, it's just the position he plays.

I think it means everything that Howard needs someone to get him the ball, 2008-2009 finals proved this beyond a reasonable doubt.

Howard avg more FT's (11) per game than FG's (8) in those finals. When you are as bad at FT's as Howard it is a recipe for disaster if you are constantly given the ball in bad position, plus the lack of refinement in his post game doesn't help.

Dwight wasn't better than Kobe last year (Kobe was 25 5 and 5 last year. Only 3 other players in the league did the same or better: Rose, Wade, and LBJ) and Howard still won't be better than him this year (though I respect your opinion as you can tell I disagree)

You are completely ignoring the other end of the floor though. Dwight is the best defensive player in the game. You have to factor that in as well. And you can't just throw out stats like, "Kobe was 25 5 and 5." That's taking stats out of context and they have little to no significance. Dwight was the only player in the league to average 23 points, 14 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks last year. Does that make him the best?

And pointing to the finals is kinda pointless for this argument, considering that was over 2 years ago and we are talking about the hear and now...
