Funny story about this...

Cleveland sports radio, in my experience, is just exponentially worse than any other city's.

The day Osweiler got traded, I turned on the radio here in Houston, and they did a whole bit on "let's see what Cleveland is saying," as they celebrated dumping Brock.

They turned on 92.3 and just started ripping how bad the show was. Hilarious stuff.

Where does everyone grade Jimmy pick wise?

He was a late 2nd in the draft. He has looked good in limmitted action.

Do you grade him only early 2nd now? Still Late 2nd because now we have a contract issue?

Late 2nd and future 3rd or 4th to sweeten the pot?

Mid 1st?

Or do you want to give the farm?

Just curious where everyone is at this point.

33rd pick and a sweetener. Nothing more. Limited game action with the contract situation means I'm not giving up a 1st for him. I can't see any of the other QB needy teams giving up their first either. I feel like the Browns can give the best package.

The whole "Browns can give the best package" thing is only a factor if they are intent on dealing him this offseason. I think they DO want to trade him despite reports and are just posturing. The Patriots are usually intelligent and dealing him makes the most sense unless they know Tom is done after 2 more seasons.

However, if they truly would be okay with keeping him this season, then that competitive "we can beat the other teams" thought process is thrown out the window. We either convince them to move him, or we don't. It will have nothing to do with fielding the top offer.

I agree, but that doesn't mean I'm going to sell the house for him either.

How do I rate him? No.1 overall. His touch on his passes, his feel for the pocket, the chiseled abs, the ability to command an NFL huddle, the pulsating pecs- he is the total package. He can grip the ball firmly in his large hands, then power it through a tight window into the breadbox of the eagerly awaiting tight end or wide receiver, over and over until the team is celebrating in the end zone. It gives me chills just thinking about it. If he was just coming out of college I think he would definitely be a late first rounder I this weak class.

Now, this doesn't mean the Browns do something so foolish- but if they can get him for anything less I think they win in the long run. Then again I was a Garropolo fan back when he was in the draft and his time in NE hasn't dampened my desire to see him gripping and ripping the pigskin for the Cleveland Browns. I think the Browns just need to wait this out, call the Pats' bluff and just don't cave on draft day like the football version of Jim Paxson and I think they get him for a solitary pick or a package less than the 12. Going to be fun seeing what they do.

I don't know that I would sell the house for him either, but I guess it depends on what you think the "house" would be.

Either way, there is no chance I do a deal before draft night. That's when we would find out for sure just how much they want to deal him. Of course, this is all dependent on Hue Jackson and our scouting team.

If they truly think someone is a franchise quarterback in this draft, I think you have to go get him. You have the assets. This isn't about value and taking a QB at 12 that drops. If he's a difference maker in the eyes of our scouts, you package assets with 12 and go get him--whether it's Trubisky or Watson. This is, of course, if the front office thinks he's going to be a star. If they don't think that, don't take him at all, even at 12. Personally, I'm higher on Mitch than Deshaun. If they like a developmental guy's value with a lot of potential like Mahomes and want to wait--maybe trade up from 33, I'm okay with that, too. That's the thing that I've always found funny about guys like Brady Quinn, Johnny Manziel, and Brandon Weeden, though. They say we missed on them. Well, hell yes, we did... but in all of those drafts we clearly weren't completely sold that they were "franchise" guys or we wouldn't have passed them with our earlier 1st round picks--meaning we had some doubts about them as quarterbacks on paper. Then, we traded back up or used a later pick to go get them once they fell. It's just funny in all three cases because we passed on all three once already.

The same goes for Jimmy. If our guys think he's going to be a stud, they should trade for him, even if it costs #12 + a 2nd or two. If they are on the fence with him and consider him a gamble, only deal for him if New England's return is significantly lower and we think the risk is worth the value. It isn't about what I would give up based on my limited time watching him--it's about what the professionals who get paid to do it think of him. And if they are convinced, the price is worth it.

This is very hard to quantify for fans like us. We aren't scouts. We have no real data to suggest if someone has a real chance at being a FQB outside of our own untrained eyes. So trying to figure out what is enough and what is too much is very hard. I FEEL pretty confident we do not have to use the #1 overall to get Garoppolo. I don't know that but I feel it. That being said, using the #12 and other assets on a guy the Browns believe has a very good chance at being a FQB sounds reasonable. Sounds like you do what you need to do to acquire him. However; if he's not a slam dunk FQB or there is a reasonable amount of risk then the #12 pick probably shouldn't be on the table.

It's hard to determine because we don't have the supporting data. Regardless, if he turns out to be a FQB, whatever we pay; it'll be worth it.

After reading your post, is it weird that i noticed i was fully engorged?

You are a poet, my good sir. You may even be the Arthur Rimbaud of sports writing. Quality writing, with just a subtle hint of gayness.
