Danny Green: Long Time, No See

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Were they pics of JBB drawing up an out of bounds play?

JBB tried doing that once, but it was too hard to draw up a play in the dirt after they vacuumed the floor in the Field house.

I think Green will see some playoff minutes. From Fedor’s article yesterday:

So, is there room for him in the playoff rotation?

“I believe so,” Bickerstaff replied. “He’s a professional shooter. He has the ability to get to spots and get his shot off. He understands defenses. Obviously, you have to account for him when he’s on the floor.”

With the second group, I don't want to see Danny Green matched up with quick penetrating guards. It's not his fault, but the knee isn't ready to switch directions easily. And that's okay: Lamar Stevens is surprisingly good against bigger scoring forwards and Okoro is strongest defending against those quicker smaller guys.

But Danny can challenge shooters with his length. His understanding of spacing and rotating in off ball defense is championship pedigree. If a guard blows by him, it's like the Rubio situation... they have Tower City waiting to cover for him. They can hide Green with the right combination of guys around him.

He should get all if any of Cedi minutes for sure……You know is only going to be a 8 man and maybe a 9 man rotation depending if someone get and foul trouble, My guess assuming Okoro is back, the bench will be LeVert, Rubio , and Wade/Stevens depending on what they need. If Okoro is limited or can’t go, that where I see Green getting more playing time,

Man, they looked good together. Pair Mitchell or Darius with Green and Cedi, Wade and Mobley and you have a pretty spaced out lineup that should still be pretty good defensively. We haven't had many lineups like that.

When Cedi is the only ballhandler he is not great but if he is 3rd best or even 2a he is pretty good.

The thing with green is you’ll sacrifice the defense for a guy who you know you pass it to will knock down the three. I think he can hit a couple/few a game.

Green was 3-for-10 from deep against the Hornet's scrubs. I don't see him getting any run against the Knicks.

I know it was just one game but Dean Wade was 3-for-4 on 3's against Charlotte and made another that was waved off because of a foul. I'm hoping he is finally coming around.

In Game #6 when the Cavs beat the Knicks 121-108 they started Wade, Mobley, Allen, Mitchell, and LeVert (Garland was out with the eye injury). Wade went 8-for-11 including 6-for-8 on 3's for 22 points. He was a +20 in 33 minutes. Julius Randle was 5-for-13 and a -8. Wade outplayed him.

I thought the Cavs would be set once Garland returned with a starting lineup of DG, Mitchell, Wade, Mobley, and Allen, but then Wade got hurt so we have rarely seen that unit. I'd like to see it against the Knicks, but JBB is a huge Okoro fan and Isaac has done well defensively against Brunson, so I assume we'll start Okoro if he can play. Although that would mean Garland guards Grimes and Mitchell takes RJ Barrett.

Edit: The lineup of Garland, Mitchell, Mobley, Wade, and Allen has outscored opponents by 20.7 points per 100 possessions. However, it's a small sample of 82 possessions, a little less than a full game.

The lineup of Mitchell, LeVert, Mobley, Wade, and Allen is +23.6 in 105 possessions. Against a very strong offensive rebounding team like the Knicks I love the idea of a big front line like we had last year only with Wade in place of Markkanen.

He really hasn't even looked bad defensively. I just wouldn't consider putting him on Brunson or Quickly.

For the love of God, while this guy is still on the team, can somebody finally tell me what dance this dude is doing?

It's definitely some sort of shuffle, but the specifics have always remained a mystery.

Green was given minutes tonight by the coach, and that trust was rewarded. Great to see him have productive minutes in a playoff game.
Let’s not get too excited. Green had 3 points, 4 boards and 0 assists in 20 minutes. We have a whole bench full of guys who can do that. But at least he proved he was playable.
