Massive facepalm.

My heart sunk when I saw this thread title.

...but honestly, if I had to guess which player on the team owned three firearms, I'd probably say Delonte ...

I'm sure there will be a lot of people within the organization or connected to it in some way that are not surprised that something like this happened and are kicking themselves that they couldn't get him involved in a trade before it did go down.

If you have guns and you are moving them then they will likely be on your person if you are stopped. If you have 3 guns on you then you are probably taking them somewhere. If they wind up being properly registered then it wont be a real big deal.

When I started reading the article and saw why he got stopped I was outraged. Until I saw that he was riding a motorcycle. People really do ride like idiots on those things. I've seen people whiz between two lanes of stand still traffic going 80, using the shoulder, slaloming in and out of traffic, etc. There are people that ride responsibly, but more often than not people ride high performance motorcycles irresponsibly.

Secondly, If I'm choosing a vehicle to transport three weapons it sure as hell ain't that one.

If they are registered and were locked and empty then you will have a point MYoung. But its still a really boneheaded move IMO without any other details necessary.

If it were any one of us we would go to jail for years

Based on the info so far, I'm betting it ends up not being a big deal. Few game suspension, community service, etc.

Those two sentences are quite dumb.

If they were registered he shouldnt have much an issue. Any plea on charges will get somekind of suspension per NBA rules.

Stephen Jackson was on probation and was shooting his gun during a scuffle and didnt go to jail so unless West's guns werent registered and/or the gun laws where he was are as Draconian as NYs I dont see much coming out of this.

According to the policy Gunther posted, I'd be surprised if the league COULD do anything about it. Camp hasn't started, don't think he was taking those guns to a charitable event unless the NRA is now considered a charity, and he didn't discharge them.

Granted, with the Plaxico situation, the league may want to follow in the NFL's steps and crack down some more and they may want to make an example of D-West, but I just don't see that happening.
