Denzel Ward

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Ward is going to be something special. For a rookie, his man coverage is already tops in the league.....as a rookie.

His zone coverage is his biggest weakness, but damn, he's going to be special

We need to play man more often. Our entire team can’t play zone

Directly responsible for taking 10 points off the board for Baltimore and the halo was in full effect. Give this man the game ball. He’s the reason the D made a BIG leap. Nice work Dorsey.

Him and Randall have to be the two best additions to the defense. Somehow, we only gave up kizer for Randall.

Ward has played five games. Only two of those teams have targeted him. The Saints were successful. But today the Ravens tried, and it cost them, because Ward played his best game yet.

The reason why you should not target him is because he shuts down an entire fifth of the field at any given second. Ward plays the receiver, not the ball, and that means everyone but the best wideouts can break free.

I’ve watched the Browns since they came back. I don’t think we’ve had any corner play at close to this level. He has helped transform the defense.

Joe Haden begs to differ.

Not sure if all catches were off Ward in man to man, but John Brown had 58 yards on 14 targets (4 catches), or 4.1 yards per target. Also seemed like Ward was always step for step with Brown down the field, and there just weren't many windows for Flacco to hit him with.

Justin Gilbert would like a word....

HOLY SHIT WAS HE TERRIBLE

Ward looks great. Not a stretch to say he's the best young CB we've had.

Joe Haden did have a couple great years here though... Dude was the only bright spot on the defense at times. He had like 6 ints his rookie year and made countless big plays as a Brown.

Ward just seems more fluid than Joe ever did though. Which is saying a lot.

Yeah, I meant no disrespect to Haden. Frankly, I wish we had not let him go. He was a blast to watch.

To me, the difference is that Ward is elite at shutting down routes after about seven yards. He’s so strong, fast, and smart that, when the play gets going, the receiver absolutely cannot get open.

I do think it’s possible Ward will never be as much of a ball-hawk as Haden was, but given the rest of his talents, that does not really matter.

I’m as excited about Ward as anyone, but Haden had a legitimate claim to the best CB in the NFL for a few years with basically only Revis having a consistently better argument

Joe had an ELITE stretch where he just ate fucking lunches. He literally cucked AJ Green on the regular. Dude was smooth as Vanilla Ice, but with more hit seasons. Haden was as shut down as they came. Teams just stopped throwing to his side.

I remember I think it was like a season after Calvin broke the receiving record and Joe had him so frustrated he was visibly pissed. I think Calvin had like 30 yards that game at a time when Calvin was the unquestioned best receiver and no one held him in check

Don’t forget, Haden also had an interception-palooza to start his career.

I know new things are shiny and Haden was broken down as fuck at the end, but at his peak he was a top 2 or 3 CB for a neat little 3 or 4 season stretch. Ward hasn’t reached that level
