Derrick Rose: Outta Here!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I HATE HIS GAME !!!!!!

I actually really like Derrick. He has the narrative that he’s washed up and yet he does something every game that surprises me with his athleticism.

Whatever flaws Rose might have, we have to remember we have him for a minimum contract. By any measure he’s worth far more than that.

If he just stops shooting those dumb 20 footers, he would fix most of his issues on offense. He's not great from 3 but with his cutting and getting to the basket he can get it done. Just stop wasting possessions with mid range jumpers

Team looks different with Derrick on the floor. In a good way. Probably our second most athletic player, and definitely the most explosive. When he’s giving effort on both sides of the floor it’s beautiful to watch. Running the floor, playing strong D. Yeah he’s got those chucker tendencies but I’m hoping those fade as we transition to the playoffs.

I don't think his defense is better than advertised. People forget MVP Rose was hands down the best PG defender in the league. Highly underrated part of his season

Hopefully he can keep up playing good defense, it fill a hole on this team. We really need someone to defend PGs and combo guards. JR and Shump are both suited to guard wings, having them constantly be on ball defenders has really hurt them. I still think we need a backup PG/combo guard that can defend, for both depth and situational play. It would give us defenders at every position level.

I never saw him as a great defender

MVP rose had taj Gibson Noah asik there waiting for his man whenever they blew by him at will

His defense is average and he’s a guard so as long as you have defensive beasts in the middle it will look better

MVP Rose helped lead the stingiest defense in the league. As the Warriors have shown, you can still have the #1 defense if one of your position players is only slightly above average as long as everyone else is elite. On a team where Carlos Boozer, Keith Bogans, and Kyle Korver saw significant minutes Rose was one of those in the first category rather than the 2nd. His strength and lateral quickness plus his decent size for the position made him an absolute menace. He was basically Westbrook except if he tried and was intelligent so he got a few less boards in exchange for shot contests.

Thibs hid rose on the worst offensive player on the Heatles during their battles

Keith bogans was in the nba for his defense

That's because the Heatles worst player that year were their point guards. Mike Bibby and Mario Chalmers.

Fair point on Keith Bogans but he was also over 30 and by the end of his career at that point. Forgot 2011 Bogans was more than "nominal starter Keith Bogans" at that point.

Of course this is a Rose Stan's piece so it has to be taken with a grain of salt but the synergy numbers jive with what I remember from that year. Rose was just plain great at defensive point guards that year. And his help defense and rebounding was really good especially for the PG position.

Bears out to me even now especially in isolation since he's still got the physical tools for it. Stonewalled John Wall a few times on drives and generally keeps his man in front of him. The Cavs play a lot better with him on the court for a few reasons and I think his defense being somewhat decent as opposed to absolutely horrendous is one of them.

^I actually think Rose does fine against other star PG's. For whatever reason he seems to get up for these games, I remember he would do it when we played the Bulls even with Kyrie.

But to your point he did fine against Wall, and fine against Kyrie. His problem seems to be consistency.

In a playoff situation, he could be a big help though given his tendency to step up in big matchups. Especially off the bench.

I think Rose can be part of a rotation to defend the best guard on the floor in the playoffs but it wouldn't be wise to ask him to do it on a regular basis in the regular season. He is already on a minutes restriction, there is no reason to put extra stress on him with his injury history.

I really think they need to look for a two way combo guard just in case to defend. We will need two or three guards to rotate as a committee depending on match up. We have only seen flashes from Rose, JR needs to get on track, and Shump needs to refocus his offensive game to become playable again.

Rose out again? This is crazy, i always thought that most of our bones, tendons and ligaments were generally created equal and he has just had insanely bad luck on top of playing a bit reckless. His game is not as reckless these days but continues to miss as much as he plays and now i am starting to understand that he really does have different DNA. It sucks because he is solid when he does play. #FRAGILE
