Diet and Workout Routines

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I woke up yesterday and declared saturday a cheat day, i did it.

the lady made bomb ass mexican scrambled eggs for breakfast and dinner was bbq chicken pizza, hummus & pita, mini corn dogs, and dessert was doughnut holes. I have pooped twice this morning already.

felt so good to be like "fuck it!" and bash food all night. But now im gonna go walk like 5 miles to burn some of that off... anyone use audio books for cardio? I've never really used one (except in 8th grade when I didnt feel like actually reading Ender's Game in the summer)... is there an easy/free app to use? I guess I should just google it lol

edit-
solid 2900+ calories... long walk today and lots of squats and chin ups tomorrow

Luckily for the rest of the lifting community, this logic is becoming the norm (at least online). Go to any fitness subreddit and the stickied info and the usual most upvoted post is stressing what you just laid out.

for once a circlejerk is doing good in the world

This stuff works for beginners, but, when you are trying to maximize results and/or are working with elite athletes, science and intricacy become a much bigger part of one's regimen. Think of the most elaborate, detailed training, recovery, and diet regimen for an athlete like LeBron, and multiply that by about 10, and that is how detailed his regimen is. LeBron's regimen for his gluteus medius is more detailed than most people's regimens.

I like to listen to TED Talks from the podcasts app. Other than that, I generally just watch shows on Amazon Prime/Netflix if I know I am gonna be on the treadmill or elliptical long.

This is about to be my favorite time of the year to go out and go on long jogs. Not supposed to get over 73 for the next 8 days. Fall jogging is the best. It still isn;t where I want it to be yet, I want it in the 60's, but we are getting there slowly.

.

well the wifi i usually steal from the gym wasnt available so i couldnt stream netflix (but protip: Amazon lets you download and watch later, so you can save it all at home and bring it to the gym).

luckily i have a job interview to prepare for, so i was able to browse Glassdoor interview reviews while walking and I ended up walking further than I originally planned lol

Only thing the girlfriend & I do for car trips over 2 hours now. Download a movie or a couple shows and it makes the time go by so much faster. Just make sure you pay attention to the road too!

@TyGuy I realized that my problem is I can't shoot off dribble.

Any advice other than practice?

Yeah, so I don't know if I'm weird or not, but I prefer if pulling up off the right (right handed) coach nick and proshot preach all day about going left for right handed shooters.

I think the reason I don't like it is because I shoot through the right but side of my face. Not to the side of the head, but up through the right side of that makes sense. I experimented by shooting through my right eye like pro shot likes. I found I wasn't getting enough extension though so my shot was flatter, I could t shoot from as far, and I was missing more to the side.

Anyway, as far as pulling up goes. I take what I like to call a father dribble with my right and I keep the ball in the area that I dip it to as I take a small hop. You. An land with either your left foot first followed by your right, or both feet at the same time. I kind of prefer my left foot first, but this is something you can experiment with. That hop though gives you nice explosion when you land; kind of like a trampoline.

I just explode up with my normal shot and my body typically drifts forward as there is where my momentum is taking me (if I'm driving towards hoop)

I also really like to drive to the right in parallel to the hoop and pull up. I get a real nice mid air turn as my body tries to align properly and it's very easy to get off on a defender. It's extremely difficult for them to guard that shot if they are trailing in the slightest.

If you can get a pull up going for you will score like crazy in pickup games.

You have anything for off ball movement?

I've been reduced to setting picks.

That can be tough, especially in pickup ball. When I played in high school I was always a catch and shoot guy, but I was playing with guys that were looking for me. That doesn't always happen in pickup games.

If you're going to set a pick, try doing it away from the ball. A simple back screen can cause some confusion in a pickup game. You'd be surprised how many times guys follow the cutter leaving you wide open.

Akron made a great point about back screens. The problem is you might be open and the guy still won't hit you with a pass because pickup guys try to be mr buckets. Or they have their own boys there and they only really share the ball amongst each other.

I like catching the ball off a curl to my right. Preferably I catch a chest pass and I'll hop to stop my momentum. I'm dipping the ball as I hop so that when I land in ready to explode up into my shot. I dip the ball towards my right thigh by the way, but I don't touch my thigh with the ball. This is why I don't like going left as much because if I catch it on my left side or gather dribble; I have to shift the ball to my right side on the dip. I like going straight up with the ball off the dip. If the ball is dipped to my left side I have to go up diagonally.

If you are spotting up you kind of have to create your own momentum by doing a little hop into place on your shot. Or you can hop a little to the right or left; whichever way you feel more comfortable (with me it's to the right)

In anything more than 2x2 I freeze my dribble and resort to catch and shoot, which is inconsistent.

Forcing myself to dribble has gotta be my next step

Also, doesn't running a curl involve someone setting a pick? I don't see much of that.

And back to shooting off dribble, it seems like it really is practice doesn't it?

Yep, usually someone sets a screen for you as you are running around the perimeter for a catch and shoot. If you played with friends it's easy enough to do. Sometimes you will have a lazy defender that trails you though and give you jump shots.

I would say for sure to work on your dribbling. Especially your left hand. I broke my right thumb once and use to practice dribbling, floaters and baby hooks with my left hand daily and it helped me tremendously. When you are driving left and you have a guy on your hip he is in position to contest your shot in a pull up unless you do s step back. I can shield him off with my body and toss up shots with my left hand around the hoop that is extremely difficult to guard.

If I'm driving right and they are on my left hip I can pull up without them really bothering my shot.

I can actually dribble really well but I lose court vision if there's 9 guys flying around.. I think I just haven't played enough to get comfy.

To be fair, I can't beat my dude off dribble, so maybe I'm not as good as I think

To the rest of the point, I think is a balance thing with me and not really seeing the hoop well enough before launching

You don't really need to blow by people. Just get them on your hip and you can score on them. You can also drive right at the hoop and that forces them to move backwards laterally in which case you have a huge advantage. Stop with a hop and rise up for the shot and they can't really contest well with their momentum going backwards.
