Dream Team 4: Golden State Warriors

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why is Kevin Durant's mom so involved in his life when he's nearly 30 years old? I mean, there's nothing wrong with it, just a curiosity.

You don't see Love's parents, Lebron's mom or even Kyrie's dad (anymore) taking such an active role in the u r grown son's lives. Just an oddity to me.

Then why did you say in the LeBron thread he will get at least 1 more if not 2?

If this is the worst the Warriors are going to be how the fuck do we beat them?

I think this team can get better. Also, fuck, can't I be stupidly optimistic for 15 minutes? :chuckle:

It's far more likely this is the worst they will ever be.

Please expand on your thoughts - I thought with the imminent signing of Curry and the Free Agency of Igoudala and Livingston, this might be the best they will be as their cap flexibility will be reducing soon. I dont get how they can get better.

KD will sign under the cap allowing them to bring back Iggy and Livingston. They've already got McCaw, Looney and Jones under contract, all of whom will only get better. They'll have any ring chasing vet they want, and they'll likely be better than West, Pachulia and/or McGee. The top-4 will only play better together.

The only thing that can derail them is injuries.

Interesting. I am not aware of their cap situation, hence my question. Also I thought KD and Curry will sign for and get the max, They will still be able to keep their players together, but I feel like their stars have peaked and are playing at the highest level. Ring chasing vets are who scare me, as now they will view the Warriors as a better option than Cavs (Case in point West).

I feel like for us, our bench was a huge huge let down and there is huge room for improvements there, hence i feel like we have perhaps a better chance. Korver with confidence, Derrick with more playing time and Deron gelling more should make us a much better team next year.

The question is complicated:

1.) Will Durant actually forgo his max to help keep Iggy and Livingston around?

2.) What are Iguodala and Livingston's respective market values?

3.) If their market values are higher than what they are currently making (11 and 6 million, respectively) will they take less to stay with the Warriors?

4.) How far into the luxury tax is Lacob willing to pay?

My rudimentary understanding is that if Durant insists on the max, they will have to renounce Iguodala and Livingston, and if memory serves, that means they're stuck taking minimum level deals if they want to stay on. If not, and Durant takes a $31.8 million deal, they will be approaching luxury tax territory ($124M) if Iguodala and Livingston both stay at the same salary, and that would be with only 9 players under contract. They could conceivably let Livingston go given that McCaw seems to be able to give them decent minutes. That would allow them to collect various scrubs and ring chasers to fill the roster out - say 2 vets at 2M, a couple at $1.5, and then a couple rookies they can pay just 800k for. That would put them at about $126 million (2M over the tax level). Small price to pay, and all you give up in that scenario is Livingston.

I think that's the most likely scenario. I hope it's not the case, and that somebody out there makes Iguodala an offer he can't refuse. He's the linchpin of their bench.

Man, I want to be happy for Durant. He seems like a nice dude, and it's always cool to see guys who have battled for years finally break through and win. But I just... can't bring myself to care. Even when LeBron won the first one, I may not have enjoyed it, but I did think, "Good for him. He finally did it." Then when he ended the Spurs the following year, I realized how stupid I was for continuing to root against him.

But with KD... I can see him throwing daggers in the biggest games of his career, and there's just nothing. I keep coming back to the lines about him just wanting to "be one of the guys" and his need to "have fun playing above everything else." I mean, even when LeBron left, you KNEW it was because he wanted to win championships. And no matter how much we all may have hated his leaving, we had to admit that the Cavs, as presently constructed, were not getting it done AND the Heat were better from a basketball standpoint. With KD, you can't tell me that he couldn't beat the Warriors if he were still with the Thunder.

The whole thing just feels gross. But whatever. What's done is done. Time for the Cavs to circle the wagons and figure out how to get the job done.

Same. I thought I was going to be steaming if we lost, but I really just didn't care. The amount of lengths that had to happen to deny the Cavs a championship this year is actually pretty remarkable. A top 5 player had to go to a 73 win team.

Some people were trash talking me at work and I was just kind of like, ok? I seriously asked them if I was supposed to view this as an accomplishment. Like is this supposed to be a notch in Durants belt? Because it sure as hell didn't feel that way. It was about as empty of a championship in any sport I can remember since watching.

Like, congrats? You made it a completely uneven playing field the likes of which the NBA has never seen and you managed to win with the most talented roster ever after adding a top 5 player. Here's your participation award

Shams with the "Iguodala serious considering leaving GS" bombshell

If they lose Iggy, they instantly become a lot more beatable. He was a gigantic x factor this year.

I think this is coming off the leak that he is going to re-sign for 8-12M which is so absurdly below his market value that if he never indicated he would go for such a figure he could really force the Warriors to give him what he can get in Minny, etc. And that is something closer to 18-20M. Now maybe the Warriors back down and give him that much. But given his age and likely decline I think that really impacts them down the road as well.

Its certainly far better news for the league than this one:
