Dwyane Wade: Back to Riley (#CavsLifer)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This is a great read. Lue has his faults but you can see why every player and in general everyone who knows him, loves him. His man-management skills are elite. This also shows Lue isn't an idiot. He knew we were better off with JR starting and Wade running the second unit but by having Wade take the decision for himself, it was great coaching on his part. This is how the locker room atmosphere improves!

When Wade and Lue told the media about the move Monday, one thing became abundantly clear: Lue always felt like this was the right move; he just didn't want to force his viewpoint on Wade.

Said Lue:- "We talked about it before he got here, it'd be a better fit with him coming off the bench."

Said Wade:- "When me and coach talked before I decided to come here ... we both talked about the opportunity for me to kind of lead the second group, but we also both talked about what I've always done my whole career is I've always started and that's what I know so our goal was to see how it was."

He also knew if he told a future Hall of Famer in Wade that he just sacrificed $8 million in a buyout from the Chicago Bulls just to come off the bench without even having a chance to start, he could lose his respect before Wade even slipped on that new No. 9 jersey for the first time.

After an embarrassing blowout loss to the Orlando Magic in their third game, Wade came to Lue and asked to come off the bench - accepting Lue's original plan, just a couple of weeks later. Rather than say, "I told you so," Lue praised Wade for coming around on his own.

"He came to me and said, 'You know what Coach? What you said was right. I'd be able to be featured more in the second unit and be able to handle the ball more, so let's make that move and make that adjustment,'" Lue said. "That's what professionals do. No ego. He saw it was best for the team for him to come off the bench. It was his call and here we are."

Where "here" is is a common ground between Lue and Wade - a mutual respect, it would appear -- that the two can only build on as the year unfolds. While Lue can be criticized for testing Smith's patience like that, one could argue that he already had a mutual respect established with Smith that allowed him to handle the situation the way he did without losing him.

Now, if he could just use some of that intelligence with his timeouts...

Looked comfortable and was efficient. If he's capable of providing double digit scoring in 20 minute stints, it's invaluable. When IT gets in there, it will only help and maybe, just maybe, LBJ will have some help.
Today was a good step.

It's been amazing to have a bench full of guys who can bail the starters out. It's also awesome for Wade to come to that conclusion so quickly and shows his professionalism and high level of awareness for what this means for team chemistry.

So I'll put this out there... We need more spacing in the bench unit to run with Wade. Especially if we're going to say Frye is out of the rotation. Korver can't be the only shooter out there. Rose, TT, Green, Shumpert all can't shoot.

Silver lining is that they should 'theoretically' be able to cover for Wade defensively.

Frye is back in the rotation. Lue said so last night. It was obvious that we missed having another shooter.

Frye and Korver out there with Wade is definitely an ideal 2nd unit with Jeff Green defending the 2nd units best player. Frye should take all of Shumps minutes.

shump should be gone. don't like seeing him out there for us now and especially when IT and Rose are back too

I think Shump is here until December 15th, and then we're packaging him with other shit to get something useful in return...

Or, just cut him. Either one is fine with me.

Wade out tonight, knee. I presume is a maintenance off night for him, and not a "new" injury.
Rose playing tonight?
