Dwyane Wade: Back to Riley (#CavsLifer)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
On potentially returning to the starting lineup once Isaiah Thomas is back:

"I'm good where I'm at," Wade told cleveland.com. "The problem would only be worse when Isaiah comes back, because he's going to need his shots. Where I am now, it's working for me and for this team."

With an off-season packed with big-name signings and transactions, you could argue that the two biggest successes at this point in the season have been HOU acquiring Chris Paul and us signing Wade. PG13, Melo, CP3, and Irving dominated the off-season talk while Wade coming to CLE seemed like just a small blip on the media radar but here we are sitting with the best bench production Lebron has played with, something that seemingly should only extend that proverbial peak of his career.

Wade, i salute you for your selflessness. Truly a breath of fresh air compared to years past.

Actually kind of sounds like he wants the shots he gets on the 2nd unit, so he is a little selfish. I like that though and it is working.

Why would you change the second unit? He's right, dont mess with it.

I wouldnt just pointing out it isn't selfless what he was saying

True, but the guy has already willingly gone to the bench (looking at you Melo). He's shown enough selfless-ness. I want guys to be a mix of killers and selfless out there.

I don’t even look at it from a shot perspective. It’s almost as if he has his squad and enjoys the responsibility of leading that group to a certain extent.

This is biased. No one loves Wade more than you

He’s always been my guy... I harken back to the Wade/LeBron debates from 11,12 years ago on here...

I have closure now..

Also you can’t win the sixth man award if you’re a starter, just saying... :chuckle:

Diminishing returns is the issue as well. A starting line up with LBJ/Love/Wade and IT in it is overkill when it comes to scoring options. Inefficient use of resources, better to stagger them and have that power to come off the bench, less chance of redundancy and overlap in skill-sets.

Something to monitor over the next few games is the tweaked line up with LBJ coming out early, allowing him to play with the bench. One in a number of experiments we will see no doubt, perhaps a preparation for IT coming back.

Your point is right, but replace "Scoring Options" with "Primary Ballhandlers." LBJ, Wade, IT are all primary ballhandlers for us, and it wouldn't make sense to have all three of them out there at a time. Korver, Frye, etc. are "Scoring Options" but they're not what you were talking about.

Lloyd’s notes on Wade:

13. Dwyane Wade told me during our recent sitdown that there are going to be nights when he doesn’t have it physically. But he also said he’s a rhythm player and he needs ample minutes sometimes to establish his rhythm.

14. After missing a game with a sore knee and struggling to start Thursday, it was fair to wonder which this was: a guy needed minutes to establish himself or a guy feeling his 15 years in the league? Wade told me it was the former. He just couldn’t get into a rhythm.

15. Wade missed his first six shots and entered the fourth quarter without a field goal. Then he made all three of his shots in the fourth quarter to finish with 10 points.

16. Wade told me he used to just shoot his way out of nights like this, but that’s harder to do in a reserve role. So he had to pass up a number of shots he previously would’ve taken. It eventually worked out.

Wade is no longer playing at 6MOY level, but he’s still being productive for the most part.

Seems his knees / age in general has him slowed down right now. Mid season struggles. Clearly he’s gonna need some games off like tomorrow to preserve him. He missed at least 4 layups tonight. Not exactly typical.

I haven o problems with Wade missing shots as he is still giving his all on the defensive side... I just don't want him to force things, especially not in the playoffs when it matters most. I don't want him to continue shooting these mid range shots if it's going to become a habit in the playoffs. I have no problems with it now, but I just don't think it's a smart strategy in the long run. Just needs to be a bit less ball dominant right now and pass more.

If he feels any sort of ache he also needs to rest. We need him fresh for the playoffs more than anything.
