Just saw this in the recent Chad Ford chat.

Wannabe GM (Philly): C-Ford, considering how well the Sixers have played without Brand, both during their current 10-game stretch and towards the end of last year, do you think it may behove them to explore trading him either closer to the trade deadline or during the offseason? After hearing Tony DiLeo say that he does not plan to force feed EB the ball in the post and that he envisions him being a great trailer on the break, seems to me that they've committed A LOT of cap space for a "trailer". Maybe the could get nice pick in this years draft (pick up Harden) or get an established SG from someone?

SportsNation Chad Ford: (1:23 PM ET ) Yes ... from what my sources around the league are saying, Brand is available. The question is, given how poorly he's played this year and his huge contract, does anyone want him?

SportsNation Chad Ford: (1:24 PM ET ) I've wondered about a Rasheed Wallace for Brand swap but doubt Joe D wants to invest that much money right now on Brand

His injuries this year not withstanding, the man is still averaging 14/9 this year. And is more like a 20/10 guy when healthy. However, he turns 30 this March and still has 4 years on his deal after this one.

Contract wise a Wally - Brand swap matches. Maybe we toss in a first rounder. We could also entertain a Wally - Sasha for Brand/Evans swap. Gives them more salary reduction since Evans contract drags and he's terrible. Only concern is that any deal would probably need to include JJ or Gibson, and I'm not sure I want to do that. Interested to hear the groups thoughts.

After seeing him in Philly, DO NOT WANT

brand is a better fit in cleveland than philly for sure. but that contract is just too much for me, and that he plays the same position as Hickson. I'd definitely have to think about it, but even if it was Wally and First rounder I don't think I could do it.

I prefer Camby...hopefully the Clippers put him on the block before the deadline. It would be nice to have one more big for that playoff run.

Camby and Elton are both injury prone at this stage of their careers, but at least Camby's contract expires in 2010 which the Cavs could use as a nice trade asset this time next year.

Reading between the lines it sounds like the Cavs have big plans to finally add LeBron's 'Robin' in the next year and it would be a shame to have Elton Brand's contract muck it up. Buyer beware when after less than half a season Philly is ready to scrap their new offense based around Elton and go with the rookie Speights who is almost as raw as JJ.

I think Kaman or camby may be on the block with the recent play of Jordan. He is looking pretty good and they might be shopping one of the two bigs. Get er done Ferry.

Yeah, but their big mistake was scrapping their offense for Brand in the first place. He's just a terrible fit for their team.

I'd love to get either Kaman or Camby. Personally I'm not sold on Brand either, just wanted to see what the board thought. The contract is just so massive it would be hard to justify.

i dont,he is a good player when healthy but have some injuries...if we do propose i would just do wally for brand straight up...but i rather look at other options, maybe even look at kaman first as someone said

Been a big fan of mr. Brand for a long time and I think he'd be a much better fit on the Cavs than he is on Philly (much like Wallace coming over from Chicago). Problem is he's got three pretty big strikes against him.

#1 He just re-upped his contract.
#2 His history of injuries is looooong.
#3 He's on the wrong side of 30.

If he only had one of the above I'd say get him. Sadly that's not the case.

Most people on this board loved the idea of Elton Brand not that long ago. Brand is a terrible fit with Philly and their other players and style of play. He would be a better fit in Cleveland. Prior to last season he played 81, 79, and 80 games the previous 2 seasons. His shoulder injury this year was a fluke injury and not because of age or wear and tear.

The biggest question with Brand is the huge contract he just signed that runs through 2013. I do think he can be a good effective player for the rest of his contract. Not knowing if there are better options that could realistically be available in the near future it's tough to make a complete judgment on the possibility of Brand.
Brand would be that very good PF who can score that most feel the Cavs need if Varejao is going to be playing most of the C minutes in the future after Z.

I don't see the Cavs trading for him at this point. It would bring a pretty big mid-season adjustment along with adding a huge contract for a 30 year old player. I wouldn't be opposed to it if Brand was added though. I love the idea of adding a player like Bosh or one at a similar level and would prefer that but I just see the odds of that happening as far from a sure thing.

Yes his contract is huge. I think that he would be good if we couuld get him for Wally straight up, and that would soften the blow of losing AV next year (if we don't resign him), but damn that contract is like a transport being towed by a car. (Brand is the car, the contract is the transport.)
