Elton Brand?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Camby and Kaman would both be better options than Elton, but only because of future considerations like contract and age. Brand would still probably be the best fit for our needs. It would sure be nice to get both low post scoring and defense. Heck, for at least 2 years now, he has been like #1 on my wish list, he certainly hasn't fallen completely off it just because of injuries and poor chemistry on his existing team.

Been a big fan of mr. Brand for a long time and I think he'd be a much better fit on the Cavs than he is on Philly (much like Wallace coming over from Chicago). Problem is he's got three pretty big strikes against him.

#1 He just re-upped his contract.
#2 His history of injuries is looooong.
#3 He's on the wrong side of 30.

If he only had one of the above I'd say get him. Sadly that's not the case.

He did reup his contract. And he'll soon be on the wrong end of 30 (March 11th) but the injury history being extensive I don't believe is quite accurate. His 1st 8 years in the league he averaged 75 games per year (91% of the teams games). Last year he ruptured his achilles tendon and basically missed the entire season. This year I don't think he's fully recovered from that and has experienced a recent shoulder injury.

What all that adds up to is a guy who makes a lot of money but perhaps has a very low trade value. For his career, Elton Brand is a 20/10/2 lock with a good jumper and a back to the basket game. If you have an opportunity to land that kind of player with guys like Sasha and Wally, I don't see how you can pass it up.

Over the life of his contract he will get older and his stats will decline. There is no doubt about that. However, they will probably decline to the point that he's a 15/8/2 guy instead of a 20/10. Still, I'd take that pretty much anyday of the week from your starting PF wouldn't you?

Elton Brand is still Elton brand.... as long as he can get healthy... which Ill be honest I know nothing about his injury so maybe its one of those career threatening ones

BUT the guy would be a great fit next to LeBron cause he can shoot and play back to the basket plus the guy plays great defense... and he is a model citizen... I mean this guy reaks of team chemistry type player that Danny and co would just love (plus hes a dukie right?)

the only problem would be his age...and maybe his contract... I mean we would still have expirings next year to try and trade and obviously we have a young big in JJ coming up that is something worth keeping

but man picking up a guy as talented as Elton for chage like Wally.... geez thats theft

Agree.

Too long of a contract at that age. I love his game, but he's declining. No way, you don't take guys at his age, who already have that many injuries and mileage on the body, with the contract that he just signed.

4 years from today he'll be 33 years old...if his skills are diminishing he'll be an 18M expiring.

If you think that A) Elton can be half of what he was in LA (and I don't doubt that at all) and B) you can get him for something like Wally you take that and run.

The biggest issue in Philly is that his style of play completely clashes with the rest of the roster. His style would fit with the Cavaliers quite well IMO. He can hit the jumper and he can play down low. You wouldn't want to build a team around him, but here he'd be co-2nd option with Mo.

I'm not worried about the contract, I'm more worried about the injuries (which I guess means I'm worried about the contract). But at the same time, they aren't the same problems coming up again and again (like a pitcher with finger blisters or Z's feet). If he can stay healthy, I think he'll be worth the money, especially since we're not relying solely on him (there's that LeBron fellow for that stuff).

And if you could get him for Wally and change? Are you kidding me? Of course you do that. LeBron + Mo + Brand = multiple title runs.

No, unfortunately I think he is too injury prone and has too big of a contract. It's awkward that I used to want to get Brand and Michael Redd so we could have our own big 3 but I'm glad this never came to fruition.

If we had the cap space to sign him, 99% of the people here would have been ecstatic to land him this summer. This could be the perfect time to buy low.

He's not a good fit in Philly because they have no shooters for him to kick to. That had the makings of a bad marriage way before they tanked to start the year. The Sixers have to run and play a helter skelter game to be effective.

He has a very good mid-range game so he should age well. Good defender and rebounder. Only downside is that he is more of a mid post big rather than a low post guy a la KG.

If they are willing to part with him for little more than cap relief, I don't think I could say no.

If I'm Danny Ferry, here's what I do.

[ring, ring]

LeBron: Hello?

Ferry: Hey, LeBron, this is Danny. Listen, I was just offered Elton Brand in a trade. All we have to send to Philadelphia is Wally, and our #1 pick this year. Want me to pull the trigger?

LeBron: [gives his answer]

I would do whatever LeBron says there.

I wouldn't be surprised if something along those lines happens or has already happened.

I didnt realize he would only be 33 at the end of his contract...

I would love to pick up the old Elton Brand... if the front office could figure out his health status I think he might be worth the risk

he just seems like a great fit here

ill will actually take a shot at brand....

but on philly's side of things,do they want an expiring or talent in return??

I would think first priority is talent... but as the deadline nears of course they're going to be getting more and more desperate.
