Elton Brand?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Undersized and now unhealthy? Sounds like a guy the Cavs would want! (back in 1983) I loved Brand when he was healthy but at this time with our franchise we can't take a chance on Brands recent health history.

I'd actually rather see what JJ has to offer than seeing what Brand has left....

Brand is a guy that is a big questiom mark, and could potentially be a great bargain, or a big dissapointment. Here's my theory ..

He had an achile's injury, which, is usually an injury where the player doesn't come back nearly close to 100% in just one year.

You usually see a player coming back from an achille's operation show a noticeable loss of jumping ability, and mobility just one year removed, but, in year two usually you'll begin to see that player go to a higher level of ability ...

I think we'll see a better Elton Brand this coming season that we saw last year, the question is will he be able to get backl to wherre he was before the injury, or relatively close, or will he be more like he was last year, which was a shadow of his former self.

Thiis is where a GM having some stealth research can sometimes locate and find bargains that normally wouldn't be available.

Possibly knowing people that work out with Btand in the offseason, and getting informed opinions as to whether he's roudning into better form in his continued efforts to regain his past form after achille's surgery.

Taking on a player like Brand with his salary figure, and what he showed last year as far as reduced abilties compared to what he could do before the injury, is a big risk ...but, could be a calculated risk worth exploring ... the4 key is whether he's going to ascend to something approaching what we used to know he could do before injury.

He might be unhealthy, but he's definitely not undersized for a power forward, 6"9.5 in shoes and a 9"2 standing reach (Bosh 6"11 in shoes, 9"1 standing reach, Amare 6"10 in shoes 9"0 standing reach).

I'm with W&G. Brand does represent a risk but if other options can't be found he's also a player you have to check out. Also have to think the price for him would be very reasonable too.
With Brand's style of play and game he should be a player who can still be effective into his 30's. The shoulder injury last year shouldn't be as much a concern as the achilles injury. His shoulder got hurt on a freak play.

Brand certainly shouldn't be the top option for the Cavs but he is someone they should do their homework on and at least be a consideration.

Taking on Brand isn't a big risk, it's a huge risk. Larry Hughes, that's the reason that Ferry won't take this chance (in my opinion). I understand that the situations are different, but Ferry got burned.

This is the second year since the achilles, so you'll definitely know what you have with him. And Brand, if healthy, fits the Cavs like a glove. He's a 20/10 guy, but that injury scares me. Lot's of guys in many different sports never made it back to 75% of what they once were.

But even if he does get back. You have to stop and look at that contract. That's the kind of contract that can Fubar a teams salary cap.

At the end, I agree that he's a big question mark. I'm just not sure that it's worth answering the question.

Interesting. I didn't know that about Achille's injuries.

I would make this trade in a second, assuming he passes a physical.

Elton's style is PERFECT for our offense. He is a nice pick and pop player and the fact that we don't run much is perfect for EB. Brand and LeBron on the pick and roll would be great. Brand has HUGE hands which allow him to catch the ball in traffic better than almost any big in the NBA.

Elton is also a very good defender. He is only 6-9 but his length is amazing. He has some of the longest arms in the NBA at the PF position and he is a consistently good defender. He consistently gets around 2 blocks per game, which puts him around the top of the NBA.

It is a risk, but Elton's game fits in perfectly. Think about it, it is just like the Pau Gasol deal...

1. Gasol, like Brand, did have a bit of an injury history prior to being traded to LA.

2. Like Brand, Gasol struggled a bit on the court and he wasn't completely into it, as he was on a team where he did not fit in.

3. Gasol and Brand both have a pretty long contract on their hands for near max-money, so it is a bit of a risk.

4. Gasol and Brand were both around the same age when they were (would be in Brand's case) traded.

The bottom line, to me at least, is that Brand is PERFECT for our offense. It would be a bit of a risk but imo he is a better option than anyone that is reasonably out there this off-season except Carlos Boozer.

brand has missed 127 games over the last 2 seasons i wouldn't call that a bit of a risk..

Yes, but that is how a consistent 20 and 10 player that plays solid defense becomes available for crap like Pavlovic and Wallace.
