ESPN: Hornets may package Collison with poison pill.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Chad Ford

Scoop: Sixers agree to trade Dalembert to Kings for Nocioni and Hawes. Link coming shortly ...

Well this tells me they are gonna hang on to that pick and take Monroe or Cousins.

WHAT?!

The Sixers raped the Kings. Badly.

I don't care for it at a talent stand point, they basically just used Hawes to rid themselves of Nocioni's contract next season. But again it points to them taking a center, they probably like Monroe or Cousins over Hawes.

I have a different take on this. I feel that many of you are under-rating Okafor while wildly over-rating Collison. To me, Collison is a younger Mo. That's it. If you look at all the reports coming out of college, they projected him to be a backup PG, undersized, average/below average defensively (because of his small size/weight), etc.

It's been posted elsewhere, but he was considered a plus defender when he came out.

Darren Collison is a great defender who's extremely pesky and puts good pressure on opposing point guards, much like the Detroit Pistons' Lindsey Hunter.

On top of that, Collison is a very strong defender, being very fundamentally sound and extremely pesky getting in the passing lanes. He does a great job staying in front of his man and always put a good effort in, even if his lack of size and strength may hinder him a bit, particularly fighting through screens.

Excellent on the ball defender, his quick hands and long arms really cause trouble for opponents (over 1.5 steals per game for his career)

....He's just 6 feet (barefoot) but has extremely long arms allowing him to play bigger than his actual size … A real terror as an on ball defender, quick to pounce on any mistake made by opposing guards.

He'd have a lot of trouble with a larger, stronger point guard who could post him up, but in the East, it's the little quick guys who dominate.

It's not just the East. The PG position seems to be going smaller/quicker in general. More Chris Paul bodytypes out there at PG then Billups / Fish.

To me it seems everyone is backing off on Collison because they don't want Okafor. Dont get me wrong Okafor is nothing thrilling, but he is a solid big that can get you a double-double. I say pull the trigger if your only giving up DWest, Tit Gibson, and Telfair. Because you know the Cavs are going to move mo after that, you could throw in someone else to get a legit younger big man. You could send Okafor back out, S&T Shaq to a team that he is willing to go to, or sign him cheap (unlikely). AP and Jamario are both expiring that can be dealt. Instead of acquiring more and more talent like we did last year, we need to consolidate it and improve on it.
Everyone keeps talking on how we need to get younger and build a team for the future around LBJ heres a solid chance. Buy or trade into the draft and get a big or SG. By just adding Collison, the team dosent look to great, but
PG-Collison
SG-Draft pick, Green, temporary shooting guard, Eyenga?
SF-LBJ/Moon as a role player
PF-JJ/Tawn as 6th man/Powe
C-Draft pick or trade/Andy/Kaun
All of a sudden this team gets ten years younger. They gel together with LBJ, not around him. It looks like LBJ would be the old guy.

I'm guessing Cousins.

I wonder if Philly is still going to take Turner or if they'll grab Favors instead. Then NJ gets Turner? The draft should be interesting.

Not at all. This is really, really good for the Kings.

I'd bet they still do Turner. Trading Dalembert gives them the opportunity to play speights more. I would bet that they try to move Thad Young though.

I am more than willing to take on Okafor's Contract if it means bringing Collison here. I really like the fact that collison can turn into that pg who has his nose in on every play *cough* Rondo *cough* and is a solid defender and can run an offense. As far as Okafor goes bringing him to cleveland could be a great thing, he would have no pressure to be the guy and will get open looks down low because of Lebron. I like the idea of getting both Collison and Okafor but chances are its not gonna happen :/

If Okafor could play C well, it would be good, but he cant, so its a waste of money, g-hern

........There are indications that the Griz have joined a long line of teams trying to convince the New Orleans Hornets to part with one of their point guards: Chris Paul or Darren Collison.

One of the Grizzlies' stated goals this offseason is to bolster the point guard position. Paul, an all-star, all-defensive team member, would easily supplant incumbent starter Mike Conley after averaging 19 points and 10 assists over five seasons.

Collison would represent a dynamic backup at the position or someone who could push Conley for the starting job.

Reportedly, the Hornets informed suitors that they must be willing to also take on one of their weighty contracts in any proposed deal.

Peja Stojakovic (one year, $15.3 million), Emeka Okafor (four years, $48 million) and James Posey (two years, $13 million) are among the contracts the Hornets might want to unload.

Any deal involving the Hornets' point guards likely will come down to ownership.

Longtime owner George Shinn's proposed sale of a majority share to limited partner Gary Chouest has not been officially announced. If the deal falls through and Shinn maintains control, there are indications that he would want to deal Paul in a bold stroke to shed salary.

Chouest likely would keep Paul and continue to build a contender........

How is this bad for the Kings? They get rid of Nocioni and his horrible contract as well as an under-achieving, soft big in Hawes, while adding a strong defensive inside presence who just happens to be an expiring contract.

Couldn't have worked out any better for the Kings, IMO.
