So... Pau Gasol?

:hide:

I kid, I kid.

With DeMarcus Cousins wanting a trade if he doesn't get a contract to his liking and Greg Monroe saying he's for sure going to test the RFA market next year, right there you have two young and talented centers possibly available. Enes Kanter was also supposedly shopped at the draft too.

Cavs still have a ton of assets; Thompson, Varejao, multiple lottery picks, etc.

The Vets we bring in HAVE to be leader types, who put in MAX effort in practice and preparation and who back up the coaching staff 100% off the way in the locker room and in games.

I like guys like Livingston(re-sign), Tony Allen, Iggy, Jefferson, Kaman.

Guys like Blatche, Bynum, Oden(if he still has "problems") need to be avoided in such a young locker room

Please someone just get me an actually big on this team, hell I'll take Oden right now...I'm even actually considering throwing money around at Pek we need to get something done ASAP..

In my mind, there's no point in signing a Center unless he is a long term answer as a starter.

Varejao is still a stud when healthy (I know, WHEN)

I am not really a fan of Zeller, but I think he has more potential and had a better rookie season than he gets credit for.

Tristan can play minutes at Center.

I'd rather Zeller get minutes than sign a middle of the road guy. Only way we should be acquiring a Center is if it is for the long haul... which I am not sure any great options are available in that case.

I'd still be surprised if we sign anyone for more than one season. I am looking for some more stop gap 1 year guys ala CJ Miles, Livingston were for us this year.

No reason to spend 2014 cap space on role players like Ellington, Livington, etc. If we miss out on a big fish in 2014, guys like Ellington are easy to find pretty much every year.

Stick to the 1 year deals. With that said, here are some possibilities of guys that MIGHT only get a one year deal at backup PG and SF...

POINT GUARDS
Darren Collison
CJ Watson
Devin Harris
Beno Udrih
Eric Maynor
Shaun Livingston

SWINGMEN
Belinelli
Brandon Rush
Matt Barnes
Budinger
Marvin Williams
Dorell Wright

These are the FA's I believe we should consider:

Mid Budget Wings:
Tony Allen - Top perimeter defender
Al Farouq Aminu - Quietly had a nice season in NO.

High price wings:
Andre Iguadola - We all know his strength and weaknesses. Excellent perimeter D, strong finisher. better offense than Allen. But worth what he'd seek?

Backup Point guards:
Shaun Livingston - I wonder what type of market there will be for him. Like what he did when he didn't have to start.
Jose Calderon - Vet, moves the ball well, can score. Defense, not so much
Eric Maynor - just became an UFA as Portland didn't pick up his option

High price interior players:
Al Jefferson - HIghly skilled on offense. No longer a black hole(has improved assist ratio) Not a good defensive fit.
Nikola Pekovic - RFA. Been discussed tons here already. My favorite available high potential FA.
Andrew Bynum - Knows Mike Brown. Will play in any city. Jersey kid(bond with Kyrie?) But who wants to take a chance on his health and injury history. Will seek MAX

Mid Budget Bigs
Dalembert - Defense. But I hate guys that only show up for the last half of their contract year. Would not trust this guy enough to sign him to a multi year deal
Chris Kaman - MIxed feelings. Defintely a plan B guy, if at all. Would not go beyond 1-2 years. Preferably with a 2nd year option
Oden -

Also, some guys to consider from the trade market:

Thaddeus Young or Evan Turner. Philly see to be in fullbown Wiggins pursuit. Granted they do have to put together a 15 man roster next year, but have to imagine one of these two could be had. Is either a true good fit at SF?

Gerald Wallace: Have to imagine he'll be flipped. That contract is bad(length more than total amount) but Gilbert said what he said about the playoffs and Wallace seems like a Mike Brown type of player.

Richard Jefferson: I hate the thought of him on the team but his contract expires next year. Would Golden State give us a first in next years draft for us taking hi and paying for him for one year. It would allow them to resign Landry and Jack w out getting into the luxury tax.

Gortat: Last year of his deal and had issues with the team and locker room last year. Len coming in to replace him. Wouldn't give up much for him so not sure what Phoenix's motivation would be, unless Sarver is still super cheap

If we take on Wallace, I will throw up. That contract is terrible and it'd kill any hopes of signing someone good in FA next year.

Well that list is really depressing no good options for a defensive center at all.

I don't like his contract that much, but Jeff Green would seem to fit fairly well with what we have right now. Boston is in total Wiggins Mode, so he could probably be had for Gee + Miami First round Pick? An Irving-Waiters-Grenn-Thompson-AV starting 5 isn't bad with Ellington, Karasev, Bennett, Zeller off the bench.

As dumb as it sounds, I think Jeff Green is one of the guy Boston wants to build around. I wouldn't want him anyways.

I think we should go after Brandan Wright, Ronny Turiaf or Samuel Dalembert. Turiaf and Dalembert would obviously be small, short-term deals, but I'd be willing to give Wright a little more.

I think if we sign any free agents, we need position flexability.
Livingston is the perfect back up to Kyrie. With his height he can guard pg to sf. He really looked good for us last year.
Earl Clark played a lot of wing for the Lakers and can guard some sf's to some centers. I read somewhere that he is coveted by Coach Brown.
I hope we keep Ellington.

Re: Trades: Since we were rumored to have had draft discusssions with PHX, I think Gartat could happen for us. Likewise, Evan Turner may be on the trade block.

The Kings brought in Shaq to tutor Cousins. He isn't going anywhere.

I would love to add Oden to this core - huge injury risk, but if you can lock him up for a couple years cheaply, you have to take that chance now....

In order to be a finals contender, you have to get lucky with a couple of big risks like that.

Houston didn't make any trades to clear the books for a run at Howard. So if they are still interested in making a run at D12 (and why wouldn't they), perhaps we could be a trade partner for Omer Asik. He would be a bit redundant on the Rockets if they had Howard, but would fit in well with us long-term when Bennett inevitably becomes our starting PF. He has the size, rebounding, defense and shot-blocking to excel in Mike Brown's system, and can cover for some of the deficiencies that Bennett has defensively.
