Goodbye Larry Nance Jr.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't think we will subject him to a full time starting center workload. I expect his minutes to be against 2nd units and when we or our opponent go small. No need to play him at center just because Thompson sucks.

Hopefully his dad shows him how to put the ball in the bucket more like he did

Be really nice if Korver could slip him some shooting techniques. His old man had a deadly game from 16-18 feet that he actually didn't develop until later in his career.

Nance has the tools to be a good rim-protector. Good-lateral movement and jumping ability.

Did not watch a lot of Laker games. Was he simply not called on to fill that role, was their defensive system not geared toward that?

I feel he could become a very good rim-protector if they work on it with him.

He’s 6’8 why do we always want to play players out of position

Now we want this 6’8 dude playing center damn

Yep, it boggles the mind. He needs to play the 4. We just punted our midget point guard, we don't need a tiny centre.

He's the perfect small ball center. Might only be 6'8.5 in shoes but he's got a longer wingspan and standing reach of say a guy like Kelly Olynyk, who is close to 7 feet tall. What makes him the perfect small ball center is that he can switch onto anyone and do a decent job of defending.

For those wondering, Nance Jr. has larger hands, standing reach and wingspan than Kevin Love does. Larger Hands and wingspan than Tristan.

Do I want him starting at the 5? No. Do I want him getting time there when the Cavs go with the athletic and long group? Yes.

I am pretty excited about this move, the more videos I watch of him. He is a true basketball player, he knows how to play the game the right way, and I think will be a great fit the rest of the team. It will be interesting how he looks on a good team vs the Lakers, I could see him as someone that will be a difference maker in the playoffs a lot like TT was in the past, with effort, heart, and a non stop motor.

My question is if we are planning Larry at 4, who plays the 5 alongside him?

If its TT, our offense be clustered as it would lack spacing.

I think long term, with the way NBA is going, Larry should be groomed to play a 5.

Like you said, he has very good wing-span and large hands. Can switch on PnR and guard the ball-handlers to a decent extent. And, he rebounds well. He loses out on few inches and pounds to some Centers but that could actually be his advantage because with Larry at 5, we can actually play a high tempo game and push the pace up to just have Larry outpace lot of these Centers, who don't have the first step and foot speed to keep up with Larry in transitions.

LeBron running the PnR with Larry Nance Jr, and being surrounded by 3 shooters in Hill, Hood and JR/Korver/Cedi would be a nightmare for any team to defend.

Larry has to work on setting better picks though. Needs to master the art of setting hard/illegal picks.

Nance's draft combine measurements:

Height - 6'8.5"
Wingspan - 7'1.5"
Weight - 226.6

Thompson's draft combine measurements:

Height - 6'8.75"
Wingspan - 7'1.25"
Weight - 227.4
