Goodbye Larry Nance Jr.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Nance's draft combine measurements:

Height - 6'8.5"
Wingspan - 7'1.5"
Weight - 226.6

Thompson's draft combine measurements:

Height - 6'8.75"
Wingspan - 7'1.25"
Weight - 227.4

The other thing Nance has is the ability to jump. Tristan does not have the leaping ability of Nance. There's a reason he's in the Slam Dunk contest. Nance can get air time. He also has a nose for the ball and is extremely active at all times. This is not a guy that ever just stands around. `

As Q-Tip said, if he could add a mid-range, he could be really devastating. But he is a great finisher around the rim, so a team cannot ignore him on D.

I know it means a lot to Nance that he's coming back home to play for his hometown team, and the franchise for which is father played. That must be a wonderful feeling. But it is really special for long-time Cavs fans too. His dad was not only a great player, but a really great, nice man, and incredibly easy to root for.

And that goes to a larger point about what it means to be a sports fan. It is not just about winning a championship in a given year. It also is about just watching the sport played at a high level, by people who love the game, and for whom each of us can root as fans. Each game, each win, is a chance to cheer.

I think the Cavs had lost that almost completely this year. Games were often painful to watch, and the season was filled with dread because we all suspected that we just might not be good enough this year.

But I think adding young guys like Nance and all the rest, and getting rid of the bad attitudes, changed that overnight for many of us. I'm sure a lot more of us will be watching games, amd having fun doing so, even though this team probably still isn't good enough this year. These trades should bring a lot of the joy of watching basketball, including some youthful optimism and hope, back to the fans.

So regardless of how this all turns out, I sure as hell thank Koby and Dan for giving us that again.

Larry already has a decent mid-range:

20% of his shots in his career have been 16-23 ft

He's shooting 40% on those.

I'm looking forward to seeing him step back behind the arc, because I really think that's the next step in his game, much like Channing Frye when he got to Phoenix.

The one issue with this, from what I've watched. Is that while Nance can definitely jump, he is not a quick-twitch jumper. He spends a lot of time gathering, which hurts him, particularly on defensive contests.

He's a good contract for two years, and will be a good energy guy. I think we overpaid.

Nance can shoot. He has a feel for and has touch. I don't LOVE his shooting form, but it's tweakable and doesn't look mechanical at all. Needs to be more compact, especially when he brings his arms down.

The fact that he doesn't take more jumpers in game is criminal in my opinion, it's probably mostly mental, he needs in game repetitions and confidence. Needs to work with Korver and our shooting coaches, because he clearly has touch and it's not even close to Tristan "no dominant hand" Kardashian.

What do you think?

Well, he'll get some open looks here. Hopefully he can knock 'em down. I love that he's now on the team his Dad played for. Nance and Price were my faves back then, and it's great to have Jr here too!

I think if we can get Nance to morf into his Dad we just got a steal because Larry Nance Sr would be the perfect pf for the cavs.

He’s 6’8 why do we always want to play players out of position

Now we want this 6’8 dude playing center damn
I mean, I don't really disagree, but we already have a 6'8 dude playing center. At least this Nance has some athleticism.

Because anything other than C would be playing him out of position. It’s 2018, you can’t be limited offensively if you play the 4. He’s a 5. He’s shorter but he’s long and bouncy. Reminds me of Clint capela.

Nance must have grew. Because his wing span is massive now. He’s dunking about 3 feet away from the basket.

He should play the 4 and improve his perimeter game. Developing him like TT is a monumental mistake. Once he develops a perimeter game i'd try to slide him to the 5 in certain matchups or even for most of the time because he is potentially a big mismatch at the 5 if he learns how to shoot in game.

He had a better shot and shot more 3's than Blake Griffin in College. Blake came into the league without a shot and has developed an okay 3pt ability on high volume and good mid range game. If Blake came into the league today without the skillset that he has today, would you also slot him into the C position?

His dad was on the Lakers/Cavs broadcast during the home game, and was saying the same thing.

It’s not that he can’t shoot. He doesn’t take enough to get a rhythm/consistency.

In an hypothetical matchup with GS I hope Lue has the common sense to relax his loyalties to TT in favour of this guy.

In the finals TT was useless as the pnr roll man. The Mcgee/Zaza acquisitions killed his usefulness. Mcgee/zaza would trap the ballhandler and still recover in time to stuff TT at the rim. In 4v3s he couldnt finish, couldn't take a dribble to collapse the D and couldnt spot a pass.

The limitations of his talent were figured out and brutally used against us
