Guardians Hire Stephen Vogt as Their New Manager

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The best manager in baseball, for my money, was hired with 0 managing experience and his only coaching experience was as an MLB bullpen coach.

As I mentioned elsewhere, there is a lot of overlap between those 2 positions.

Cash has also started to blossom his own branches on his own coaching tree.

Derek Shelton, Rocco Baldelli, Matt Quatraro and Charlie Montoyo are all current or former big league managers that came from Cash's Tampa Bay staff.

There is a hilarious segment of Vogt on YouTube as Mr. Official. I would post if I knew how. You should check it out

Felt like he was our guy when it leaked he was coming in for a second interview

I think the Counsell interest was genuine and I think the Guards likely viewed it as important due diligence given Counsell’s track record.

But had Counsell not been available or willing to listen I feel like SV would have been announced quite a bit sooner.

I'm for sure happier with this than any other outcome with exception of hiring Counsell. Higher risk for sure, but also high reward potential. Excellent culture hire
Surprisingly, the Counsell watch continues.. now, after the Mets have made their decision.. that is.. not Counsell..

It appears as if hometown has the draw to keep CC where he's at..

....& surpasses the $$$ motivator...

Would be a hell of an add via a trade this off-season to be a veteran on this staff that can replace Bieber.

2 years, $44m left that the Blue Jays could pick some up from.
Great thought.

Someone compile a list of trade/FA targets that played with Vogt...:)

Wait what?
Well I was thinking maybe Houston... Guess not.

Though they appeared to be out, lookout for the Angels to swoop in here.

Edit - I guess the Cubs are the "winner".

$ 44 MM over the next two years for a 35 year old "veteran" pitcher?.. Not sure this is the wisest move the Guardians can take...

Also, breaking: Craig Counsell did decide..it's the Northside with the Cubs..

Connecting the dots... looks like the Guards and Mets were both waiting on Counsell, and the chips fell into place once he told them he was choosing Chicago.
