The best manager in baseball, for my money, was hired with 0 managing experience and his only coaching experience was as an MLB bullpen coach.

As I mentioned elsewhere, there is a lot of overlap between those 2 positions.

Honestly, I am very pleased with this hire despite the lack of experience Being a catcher for ten plus years is a tour of duty on its own

I like the youth, he will relate fine to current players. He will have gravitas because he did play.

I love Tito but it was a time for some fresh air in the room

Pretty shady by the Cubs it seems. They did all of this as quietly as possible because David Ross was under contract. Can't imagine they gave him any forewarning about the whole thing.

For guaranteed money it's the highest ever. And that was his goal from day 1. Reset the guaranteed languages, reset the per year figures for the position.

There have been a few seasons by some managers that eclipsed $8.5m (Torre, Tito, Roberts) but their salaries were rollercoasters in terms of the guaranteed $ figure.
