Happy Trails George Hill

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Foots Walker then if no Eric Snow?

I really have no idea if Foots could defend, he was slightly before my time, but anytime i can make a Foots Walker reference, relevant or not, I feel I owe it to RCF.
Terrell Brandon?

Hill's one of those unicorn point guards whose skillset shouldn't be compromised by LeBron's playstyle.

He is a lights out shooter off the ball and has historically been a solid defender. He's a savvy floor general as well.

Let's hope he's got 1.5 seasons of good ball left in the tank. If he does, he's a great fit for this roster.

Have always rated George Hill.

One of those perfect role-players to have alongside two super-stars.

Really excited to watch him play alongside LeBron and Love.

Also, he is possibly the best starting PG defensively we have had since Ron Harper.

You obviously forgot Eric Snow.

I’m not sold on Hill and his $20M contract. I’m sure Altman checked into his toe issue that caused him to miss the Warriors series last year and also considerable time this year. It sounds like the toe has been the main cause of Hill being rated the 9th worst defensive PG this season.

I do agree Hills playing style fits with LeBron significantly better. If we are going to remain a heavy ISO team, you want spot shooters like Hill who don’t need the ball to be effective. Hill’s contract is near Batum level bad though and hamstrings us the next two years.

Ultimately my biggest disappointment is Isaiah couldn’t round into form faster. Even though he wasn’t playing well, you could just tell the “fit” wasn’t there with LeBron. So I’m ok with trading him. I just think the return and value we got back was sub-standard and giving up that first round pick was absurd. There is no reason on earth we should’ve had to attach that to IT and Frye. LA was desperate to move Clarkson to clear space....

I don’t know....I’m pretty bummed about today. The loss of Wade for a second round pick really upsets me too. Wade has played well in his role, and would’ve been vital in the playoffs. I just don’t see why you’d opt to move Wade for basically nothing when he has a lot of value based on his contract. It just kind of baffles me....

I hope Lue has the balls to insert Hood into starting line-up but am not expecting it. I like Nance as our starting 4 until Love gets back. I’m hopeful for Tyson Chandler or Brook Lopez in the buyout market. I still think to get to a legit title contender status, TT needs to be an energy big off the bench. I’d even start Chandler over TT just for the defensive impact to set the tone at beginning of games.

Wade wanted to leave, and the Cavs obliged. I really wouldn't be surprised if he retired at the end of the year.

Doesn't Hill have only $1 million guaranteed against the cap for 2019-20? So we are really just stuck with a big contract for 2018-19? That's what Sportrac says, anyway.

The toe thing is obviously a concern. Both Hill and Hood are injury prone.

Hill is guaranteed next year for $19M.

It’s the following year he has a $1M buyout.

right -- that's what I was saying. We are stuck paying him a lot for 2018-19, but then in 2019-20 it should be easy to get off his contract.

We badly needed a decent starting PG, taking one year of a bad contract to do it seems A-OK to me.

Like having a 150% Mathew Delevedova-better defender, better shooter, better with the ball in his hands....

.

Hills toe has not caused him to miss any time this year.

He's a heady player. He will fit
the way Jose Calderon has actually. Steady hand. Gets guys going. Controls the pace. Hitting 3s was crucial for this role as well. Not as dynamic as Kemba, but he will produce very quickly I think and fit his role really well.

This isn't true...he complained of discomfort earlier this year. It hasn't been to the point of him missing extended time, but there has been lingering pain. Beyond De'Aaron Fox getting more run because he's a rookie, the limited minutes for Hill were also allegedly tied to not wanting to completely reaggravate his injury.

On the one hand, the Cleveland Cavaliers are concerned about a nagging toe injury that Hill has:

“There’s the George Hill health issue. He missed three of four games [recently]. And I know they aren’t playing their veterans, but he had the toe issue pop up earlier this month and he’s been battling this toe issue for two years now. He’s missed six of his last [11] games – some because of the toe and some because he’s been a healthy scratch. I do think there was some concern within the Cavs organization about that.”

On the flip-side, if they can get him 100% and without discomfort, it'd stand to reason his defensive numbers would get back to previous season levels.

I like the pickup and the team was playing best with Jose starting... Hill is better when healthy.

But shouldn't his contract next year be viewed as a $20 million dollar expiring contract next year? There is only $1 million guaranteed for the year after.
