Hue Jackson and Todd Haley Fired

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Either way Hue has to be given this season and reevaluated after this season is over, but they it looks like right now, something is going to change on the sidelines for next season and hopefully it will not be Greg Williams since the defense actually hasn't been bad.

I like Hue as a person and the way he goes about things, but if this team cannot show improvement during the season and stop with all the turnovers and penalties, then he is likely out of a job and probably will not get a chance to be a head coach again in the NFL outside of an Interm basis somewhere. It is not the fact they are expecting him to win every game, but they are expecting a solid showing every week and it just hasn't been there. I know people are saying the team sucks, but a good coach will bring out the players talents, and right now we aren't seeing that at all, if anything regression is the feeling we have on offense.

Hue needs to give up playcalling duties.

I completely agree. He needs to give it up so he can be joined at the hip with Kizer whenever Kizer isn't on the field. Go through what adjustments are needed, what Kizer missed, what he needs to do better, etc. If Hue can't coach up Kizer, it doesn't matter how good his play calling is, the mistakes will doom the offense and his job.

I think it would make a world of difference. Hue wouldn't be throwing his QB under the bus to the media post game. The coaching with happen in real time and reinforced when they play back the tape. The way blame gets throw at each other, I just don't see how Hue and his QBs have a good relationship.

The defense has been fried dog turds

Actually we have improved a ton from last season. They are a top 10 running defense and top 10 in actual yards allowed per game. They are a middle of the pack defense at the end of the day if not actually better than that in the overall picture since their passing defense hasnt been all that strong, but I expected that stat so I am not all that worried. Out front 7 long term actually looks really solid and I think with more depth in the secondary with additional talent added next season they will be good. I dont think we need to make any major changes on that side of the ball outside of adding more talent in the secondary and more depth at LB.

My $.02...

Right now the only way I see Hue keeping his job is if A) the Browns get at least two wins and are competitive in other games and B) he agrees to hire an OC and turnover playcalling.

As you said, i think he has a good personality for a HC, but he has too many things on his plate also being the OC. The primary function of a HC is more of a management position than that of an actual coaching position. Your job is to set philosophy, manage egos, prepare coaches, work with the FO, instill confidence in your coaches and players, in game management (time, down, distance, TO's, situations, etc) and so forth.

Few coaches are able to successfully be a coordinator and a HC. Most of the time it ends up in disaster because each position is a full-time job and demands an incredible amount of time and attention. Basically, Hue would do a lot of good by checking his ego and stepping back so he can do his job.

We give up 26.2 points per game. We have games against the Jets and the Brisset led Colts thrown in there for good measure and we still are 5th worst scoring defense

But at least we don't give up many yards!!! Break but don't bend!!!

The Patriots are actually way worse than we are on defense if you look at the numbers and we are one of the best at stopping the run this season if you look at the actual numbers, but our pass defense hasn't been good, but that is to be expected with the fact we need help in the secondary and everyone said it would be bad at the beginning of the season. Peppers shouldn't be playing as a CF style of safety and we truly lack that period on this team. We have good blitzing and tackling safeties, just not good coverage safeties which we will address next season easily.

The Browns talent level has absolutely improved across the board compared to 2016. There aren't that many glaring holes.

The problem is they are actually playing worse at QB and RB than they did last year.

Maybe we should have kept McCown? I wish we did have a veteran QB like McCown or Hoyer to play this season for us. I think we would have been better off with that type of leadership in some ways. Hindsight is 20/20 but going with just 1 and 2 year players at QB has kind of been a mistake in my mind.

Yeah you named one of the 4 teams worse than us on defense. What are you trying to prove?

It blows my mind how anyone can watch this defense and think "yeah I'll hang my hat on that!"

The defense is not nearly as bad as you are saying it is at the end of the day. If we actually had a semi-decent offense we would be about 500 right now in overall standings.

Going into the season with three quarterbacks with a combined 8 starts (and the one with all 8 being inactive every game) was seemingly not the best decision.

The defense is, quite easily, bottom 10 in the NFL.

Saying that the Patriots have been worse does nothing to disprove that

Teams are not running on the Browns, they are second lowest in the yards allowed per run in the NFL, last year they were one of the worst. So they actually have improved the defense and will get better as players adjust.

The offense either way needs to play better and we need to stop with all of these penalties! We could win a game or two if we stop turning the ball over and having 10+ penalties a game. I wonder if we will get an NFL record for the most penalties in a season lol

This is like that one year where we were one of the best ranked defenses against the run. I think it was Kruger's first year here. We were one of the top rated run defenses and then near last in pass defense.

I also remember a year we had a top 5 pass defense statistically and it was mostly because we gave up about 180 yards on the ground per game, by far the worst in the NFL

Maybe our pass defense is so bad teams don't even bother establishing the run:conf (11):
