Greetings. I'm having a bit of a dilemma. The story goes like this - I've been a Cavs fan for a decade now. Been watching the NBA for about two decades. When I was younger, I didn't really have a favorite team. I'm from Puerto Rico, don't have a local team.

When yours truly graduated from high school, I started following the NBA more. That was in 2011. Was starting to look for a team to follow. The Cavs were in the middle of a rebuild, having drafted Kyrie Irving. I thought to myself, the Cavs are an interesting team because they're young & could be the next OKC Thunder.

The dilemma steams from the fact that I might move to California soon. I'll finally have local teams. That said, the Cavs have such a nice team that it's making me overthink. I would in theory have many Cali teams to choose from.

What would you do in this situation? Part of me thinks it would be weird rooting for the Cavs while living in Cali. I'm considering staying put but want to know what you guys think.

If you're wondering, I would indeed consider the Sacramento Kings. As a matter of fact, they're the front runners, being the closest team to where I might re-locate. Don't worry, the Warriors are not on the radar. As for Baseball, I like the A's.

Location is Salinas, California.

I'd stick with cavs. What if you move from Sacramento soon after and go to San fran, then going to root for warriors? I tend to think you'd be best by sticking with your original.

Thanks for the input. It is a great time to be a Cavs fan, no doubt.

I have lived in 14 states.

I have never had to switch teams.

Of course, it is always acceptable to have a second favorite team in the opposite conferance.

Mine was always the Supersonics.

Cool. Transitioning to a Kings fan might be a bit harsh, especially considering how good my current favorite team is.

The Kings have some interesting pieces & the 4th pick in the draft. With Mike Brown coaching that team, they could surprise next season.

I moved around alot as a kid. So I never rooted for local teams. Just picked favorite teams and stuck with them. No reason to stop rooting for Cavs just because your moving to Cali.

I personally can’t get too invested in other teams, but you can do whatever you want.

I’d recommend the Kings because no one will accuse you of front-running and their shitshow organization will be a nice contrast to what we have going on here.

You can root for more the one team - there’s no rule about only being allowed to root for one.

That said, I live in the Boston area and root for all Cleveland teams. Now that it’s possible to watch any team from any location pretty easily, it makes following teams very easy, no matter where you live.

I've lived in Chicago since 2001. Can't stand any of the teams. Check that. Blackhawks were cool when they were winning. Front runner here. Cubs, White Sox, Bears, Bulls. Don't care. The team you first become a fan of, and understand the ups and downs and connections with players, supported by a community like this. I go to some of the games with friends and have a good time. But enjoy California and follow any team that some of your friends you make follow. In America, there are transplants everywhere. You might even find LeBron fans and can talk about his days here as you witnessed it. Intended.

You’re 11 years in, no turning back now! I grew up a Cavs/Indians fan because of my proximity to Cleveland, but was a KC Chiefs fan because I was named after one of the players. I had never even been to Kansas City until I was 25 years old. However, that was my team and I that’s still my team despite now living in a different state with 3 NFL teams.

As others have said, you won’t have a connection with the Cali teams. But when you drive up to see the Cavs play at Golden State, it’s a cool feeling to bond with the other Cavs fans in attendance like @Randolphkeys!

That’s good insight, Christian Okoye!

I would say go with the team you’ve invested your time into over the last few years. The Cavs are going to be fun for a few years so enjoy that. When they become bad again, it’s always fun to play arm chair GM and think about how to rebuild the team.

Yea I left northeast Ohio 10 years ago.

I will say when I lived in Washington DC I began following the Capitals cause I didn’t have an NHL hockey team and going through their Stanley Cup Championship was fun…. Also, I followed the Nationals very closely cause they were on every night and had a fun team and it blew my mind to see them win the World Series in 2019 and I was crazy into it…..

But even then it wasn’t the same….

With as much losing and suffering in terms of winning it all as Cleveland fans this really isn’t something you choose….It’s part of you…

I wouldn’t want to get out even if I could….
