Iman Shumpert: Gone! Thank God!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
we don't know anything yet about how much new additions like Rose, Wade, IT, or Green are buying into the greater plan. None of them have been under any stress yet, they literally just got here.
They all decided to come here. IT and Wade have quite a name ... Rose decision to go on a LeBron team (KI was still here).

That is more buying in than Shump handling the ball and shootin of the dribble, or getting lost on defense.

The Varejao one... actually, for as much of a head-scratcher as it was at the time from a basketball standpoint, it made a ton of sense. He was a respected vet getting one last pay day to stick around and help the young guys. Not the front office's fault he tore an achilles. Plus, the fact his last year was non-guaranteed helped this team land Channing.

The Varejao one, I understood extending him, but the contract he was signed to was stupidly high...and that’s not a hindsight thing either, plenty of people thought so at the time and that we’d end up regretting it. Plus, making the final year only partially guaranteed for a million dollars guaranteed he’d be traded at some point.

Shump probably wants to get traded to Boston to be with his lover Kyrie :chuckle:

Seriously. Fuck this scrub. He actually thinks he should be trusted with the ball?? Send his ass to Brooklyn to help them lose.

You know how LeBron is with Trump, where he doesn't even want to say Trump's name?

That's how I feel about Shumpert.

Just counting the days until he's gone.

My hope is that Thomas comes back healthy, the rest of the team stays healthy, Shumpert drops to third string and he asks for a trade. And we accommodate him.

Hopefully we can get back a useful piece for him. But if I remember right, the team was looking at basically salary dumping him this past summer.

While I wholeheartedly agree it's defense and open 3 PT we need from Shump, I see nothing wrong with the interview in general.

All players have a self concept as to their overall game, but defining the roles on the team is ultimately up to the coach.

Stop being a lil-bitch Shump! You irritate my basketball sensitivities, stfu and grab that last spot on the bench while Koby tries to pull-off a miracle by dumping you on some unsuspecting team....

Personally, I love this! I'm expecting a big year for Shump. It sounds like he spent the summer getting his confidence back. I hope to see him play with more freedom and aggressiveness. I think he can be more versatile than the typical 3&D wing. More in the mold of a KCP or Larry Hughes type.

Weird nobody is mentioning this, but Kyrie was such an terrible influence on Shump and McRae, it was well known that they were hanging out together and were not a part of the LeBron/Swish/TT squad, they had their own little 3 man crew.

Chucking McRae shot the ball every single time he touched it, Shump suddenly thought he was some kind of an offensive player and started doing stupid shit and stopped playing defense, which was his only fucking job.

Kyrie egocentric and selfish attitude rubbed off on Shump badly imo, he went from being a team first guy who plays his heart out on defense, to a delusional selfish prick who thinks it ok to passively aggressively bash LeBron in an interview..

Its kinda sad because Shump had a ton of potential, he could've been a Jae Crowder type player, plays great defense, shoots open 3's, moves the ball on offense and doesn't do anything he can't do, instead he deluded himself to think hes some future allstar or some shit

Might be something to this. I saw his drop off as a championship hangover from a guy who never won a title before and had no idea how to defend it. The majority of the team had the hangover- minus LBJ and Love, to Love's credit.

Kyrie is gone. Lets see if this team can get back to being professional.

Shumpert has role on this team if he wants it. It's up to him to carve it out and prove himself on a consistent basis.

We know he's gonna shoot about 35-38% from 3. And that's fine. If he improves more, wonderful, great! But if he stays in the mid 30's...his role is not defined by hitting threes.

He doesn't have to dribble or handle the ball at all.

He doesn't even have to be a good overall defender.

But if he wants, he can become the guy we situationally put on opposing PGs, particularly the quick and explosive ones. If he can just focus his pea-brain on becoming our go-to man defender against quick PG's...he will have a consistent role on his team. He will play most nights. He will get a solid 10-12 minutes. All he has to do is come in and commit to shutting The PGs water off. Guys like Wall, Kyrie, Lowry, Schroeder, Westbrook, Conley, Paul, Harden...etc..etc

We know he can do it. He can hit 35% on 3, suck at everything else...but if he can slow down PGs when we ask...he will have a role

I'm Not counting on it
He's way too concerned with showing off his supposed offensive prowess. He has no idea what his limitations are and this is holding him back. Guys that know their limitations and play their role stick around a long time in the NBA.

This is one of the main reasons I want Shumpert gone, because of that trio. Two of the three members of that "triangle" are gone, and I'd like to see the third one go as well.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure all of Shumpert's issues stem from Kyrie.

I believe Phil Jackson labeled Shumpert as "difficult."

Now I don't think Phil was a big JR fan, either. But JR remade himself here, and Shumpert has not.

Does anyone else think Shump is going to look WAY WAY better this season?

He seems so much more motivated than ever before.

Yep. I do.

I think last year he had too much on his plate with playing PG etc. Lue said he has a role. I want to see how he plays in that role.
