Should we trade Isaiah Thomas at the trade deadline?

I have faith that i.t will come good however i think he should be shut down for a fortnight. He has made his return, dusted a few cobwebs and now its time to reset. Get some solid rest in and work on a few things and then come back full steam ahead.. he has hit a wall right now

The only way to get back in a rhythm after sitting for 7 months is to actually play games. He can't do that if he's shut down.

We have seen what a mental break has done for lebron in the past..all that is happening now is that he is losing confidence and douby could be setting in wheter he can actually make it back from the injury

Granted I have no way of knowing, but given his history and past success, I highly doubt IT is losing confidence.

This guy is just killing us on both ends of the court. I know he has to play his way back into shape and rhythm, but... dayumn!

I.T will be fine.. More games he will get going again! we need our backup PG to get healthy.

He's only been back a few games, I knew it would take him time to get back in game shape/form. He's making a lot of mistakes, yes, but he's not the main reason we're losing games (he's just definitely not helping the cause).

What bothers me is how shitty our offense is at times. I watch Boston and Golden State play and they have constant action/movement/screening etc. A huge percentage of the game we go straight ISO mode, ESPECIALLY if we're losing. That can't happen with a guy like IT. He can't go from averaging near 30 in Boston to being complete dog shit the next season for another team without there being valid reasons - our elementary attempt at running an offense is undeniably that reason.

His injury didn't help, and maybe it was more severe than even we anticipated. But I guarantee if we trade this guy to a team who runs a competent offense we'd see him scoring nearly 30 ppg again. But here? Shit, he'll be lucky to score 15.

IT has had two good games and two games where he can’t hit an open shot to save his life. It’s all part of the process of getting into shape, getting rhythm. He said it himself...he simply doesn’t have a rhythm.

IT is gonna be just fine offensively. He’s gonna score and score well. It’s not fair to compare him right now to him when he was at his peak last year. He’s not even in game shape yet. ITs offense is the last thing I’m worried about. Hell, I’m not even worried about the Cavs offense. When we play our game and hit shots, were an elite offense and that is going to be there in the playoffs. The Cavs will fix their offense , we run good stuff and have good players. Our defense is the problem and it has to start with effort and likely a trade.

IT is down to 4.7 FTA PER 36 as a Cavalier. GOOD!

Another thing, if you want to not off yourself, don't check IT's advanced stats. It's for your own good.

I didn't bother to watch the Minnesota game (I have to record and watch) but I did take the time to watch last night's game. As for the bolded, I don't know WTF you're talking about.

IT's presence completely threw our offense out of whack. He's forcing everything. He's taking everyone on our team completely out of rhythm because they're all trying to accommodate him. You can see, absolutely nobody... and especially Lebron and KLove... nobody knows where to be on the court with this guy. Everybody is bending over backwards trying to let IT do his own thing but IT is throwing up such garbage, getting his passes intercepted, getting his shots blocked... he single handedly disrupted and destroyed our offense against the Raptors.

IT's presence and dismal abject failure on so many possessions was too much for any team to overcome, and the Cavs are a team of players who need to find their rhythm early to get going. IT destroyed all of that. Seeing turnovers and blocks possession after possession, seeing the ball go the other way for easy fast breaks after blocks and 4 point turnarounds, over and over again? That just completely squashes any chance for other players to get themselves going.

And that doesn't even begin to talk about the defensive end.

If IT is going to be ball dominant he is going to have to get his shit together sooner rather than later, and play like it's 2016-17. Otherwise we will keep getting blown out.

Man I.T. is really is overrated. (the following is sort of a joke, sort of not, but something to think about) Here is something to blow your mind (actually, give you all another reason to yell at me). What if i told you that Derrick Rose is almost as good/valuable as Isaiah Thomas (considering the past 2-3 seasons only)? Rose on D on a scale of 0-10 is a 4. Rose on offense is a 6.5. Rose overall: 5.25/10 average. Thomas is a 2 on D. an 8 on offense. Thomas overall: 5/10 average....
On Defense I considered opponent FG%, defensive rebounding, 1 on 1 D, team D, shot blocks, steals etc.
On Offense I considered scoring, passing, offensive rebounding, efficiency/shooting %'s, screening etc.

Wait what? Rose is as valuable as Isaiah Thomas??

Listen, IT has been really bad for us, and if it continues the team is in major trouble. He has also always been a terrible defender. But he was a second-tier MVP candidate last year and led a Celtics team straight past a healthy, strong Wizards team. He is hands down better than Derrick Rose.

I assume IT will find his footing at some point but right now we're suffering from his presence. I think Lue is just trying to weather the storm and give him time to find himself with this team, and it is going to be painful until he does.

OTOH we have really sucked since TT came back even though TT is personally playing close to his potential. The huge elephant in the room with TT is he simply does not fit in with the 2018 roster. He destroys the floor spacing that helped this team click on all cylinders as recently as a few weeks ago, and we saw the negative effects of TT's presence on the floor as soon as he returned, and ever since he returned.

I don't really blame TT for this, he is doing what he does best and his flaws are a part of who he is as a player for better or worse. But the dude really botches shit up for this team.

Now we add IT to that dysfunctional fit, and it is epically bad. To top it off we still have to squeeze minutes in for Rose. It's a mess and it's going to stay bad for awhile unless Altman makes some moves and blows some shit up the way Griff did with the Moz/JR/Shump trades, only he needs to do the 2018 version of that (whatever it ends up being).

I think you're 100% correct, but you're also pissing in the wind at this point. 90% of RCF seems about to jump of the ledge right now.

I personally think LBJ is dogging it right now because he knows that it is going to be a huge struggle until IT actually gets back in shape, and into rhythm. When IT looks like he's hitting his stride, I think LBJ's own effort and play will miraculously increase as well. And I think Crowder will actually look much better as well. He's struggling because IT is struggling.

That being said, we still have two major problems -- what we're going to do with shooting guard, and the whole TT/Love/Crowder/Frye conundrum. I think we have to make a trade by the deadline because the current mix of players doesn't work at those positions. I think if we don't, either Cedi or Wade will be starting at the 2 come April.

Interesting comments by IT today in advance of the Warriors game. I find these comments somewhat positive, since they A) don't mention any hip pain, but just getting his legs back to game shape, and B) show a lot of self-awareness and maturity about the effort and time involved in working his way back to peak shape.

"I knew it was going to be like this," the Cleveland Cavaliers point guard said after practice Sunday. "I have no legs. So it's going to take some time to get it back, even when I played well those first two games I told Coach (Tyronn) Lue it didn't feel right. It was kind of fool's gold."

Thomas averaged 18 points in his first two games back from a seven-and-a-half month layoff -- both wins -- and shot 52 percent from the field (13-for-25). In his last two games since that positive start -- both blowout losses -- Thomas averaged 6.5 points and shot 19.2 percent (5-for-26).

"The shots were going in, but none of my movements, none of the things I usually do felt normal," Thomas said. "It's going to be like that for a while. I've just got to be patient. I'm my biggest critic; I'm not a patient person. So it's killing me that ... to be, I'm used to stepping on the court and being special. So now I've got to work. I've got to work my way back and get my legs back and get my legs back to playing at a high level."
