So opposing point guards are going to have to wait til January to have career scoring nights?

Honestly, it is incredibly positive news IMO. Read the article.

"Thomas' rehab has gone so well the Cavs have had to urge him to be patient with his eventual return date, sources said, as the team is hopeful it will make a fourth straight trip to the Finals and need him well into June. "

Cavs are doing the right thing here and it should be really exciting he's feeling this good on this new treatment plan.

Back by January would mean he'll only miss around 30 games. This sounds like it could end up being best case scenario for us.

There's this snippet. They wouldn't bring this up if there was no cartilage loss:

However, they could explore a more radical treatment option such as a platelet-rich plasma injection into the hip as time goes on.

Even if he's cleared by January, with this type of injury I'd prefer to be cautious and keep him out till Feb. It's better for both him and the Cavs. Go from 95% healed to 99% healed.

I found it most interesting that he said he's been working out pain free already (in media day sessions).

He's shooting, running, working on defensive slides and he's really happy with where he's at.

Team is telling him to remain patient and stick with the treatment process.

He feels like he's already ahead of schedule but there's no rush from the organization.

CC is starting him from square one and they are focusing on re-stabilizing the hip.

IT isn't going to be rushed to play until he feels 100%.

I know it has been posted, but I just watched this and let me tell you, it gave me a whole new level of respect for IT and made me a fan. This guy has a ton of heart and has had to overcome so much in his career. His workouts in this video were the most intense I've seen, and I've watched a lot of athlete workouts. Even in shootaround by himself, he was going super hard, full speed. The hunger him and Jae will bring is so huge for this team. They are itching to play in the Finals. Their heart will put us over the top. This video erased my doubts about him or that he might come back different.

The documentary was really well shot too. Super looking forward to the next chapter of this with his journey in Cleveland. I want to win the Finals for IT and Jae more than anything now. They want it bad and deserve it.
